We have a special ford day at PRP scheduled, there will be an all Ford race with 2 classes Sponsored by Laurel Mountain and The Motor Works. This is a 1st for PRP, lets get a big turn out and show them the possibilities and possibly do this once or twice a year. Details are a little sketchy yet but we are going to see if we can rent a dunk tank and place Casper in there for a few hours, LOL.

Ed, the 20th is actually a scheduled race day. The Motorworks, Dominic Race Car Fabrication, and the Starting Line Cafe are all presenting both days that weekend for the regular racing.
I think it's very cool to have the Laurel Mountain Shootout on a raceday. I'd like to get to see a nice turnout and see the ponies run. What are the classes? And are they open to any Mustang? Some of the points regulars who aren't on here might be interested if they're eligible.
My bad. I didn't know there were any scheduled race days on a sunday midseason. If it's non points day then normal turnout will be light and that is good for a Mustang event time wise.

I talked to Mark Brewer from the Motorworks tonight, and he told me there will be 2 classes, 1 no electronics (transbrakes, delay boxes not allowed), and 1 electronics (transbrakes and delay boxes ok). $25 entry, each class is paying out $400 to win, $100 runner up, open to only Fords, any Ford. That's way cool, hope a lotof cars come out.
Also, thanks to the Motorworks, Dominc Race Car Fabrication, and the Starting Line Racing Cafe, they're doing something really cool. Since there is regular racing both days, the sponsors are going to give $300 to the racer who scores the most elimination round wins over the 2 days, and $50 to the second most, in EACH Top, Modified, and Street. Winners are excluded, as the intent is to reward racers who had a good weekend, but didn't get the big payout.

Sounds good. Any idea what time the track is going to open and such?
CobraII
07-17-2008, 05:21 PM
I'll post the other classes entry fees and payouts too, just in case anyone wanted to double class. I'm hoping to see a bunch of cool cars come out.
Gates are open at 9, junior dragsters time trials start at 9:30 I think. The track tries to get 2 rounds of the juniors done before starting the big car portion of the program. Time trials for the big cars start at 1pm. I haven't heard what the run order will be. The normal run order for big cars is Modified (13.99 and quicker, transbrakes allowed, $40 entry, $1000 to win, $350 runner up, $20 round money starting with second round win), Top (11.99 and quicker, electronics allowed, $40 entry, $1000 to win, $350 runner up, $20 round money starting with second round win), Motorcycle ($30 entry, $250 to win, $100 runner up, I think), Street (12.00 and slower, no electronics, slicks ok, open header ok, $30 entry, $350 to win, $150 runner up, $15 round money starting with second round win), Trophy (12.00 and slower, $20 entry, winner gets a trophy, runner up gets a small trophy or a plaque, no slicks, no open headers, no electronics).

gmkillr
07-17-2008, 05:57 PM
No t&t class?
I don't want to bracket race, or win money or anything like that. I just want to pay a minimal fee ($20) and make maybe 3 passes.
Sonic03snake
07-17-2008, 06:23 PM
No test n tune this time but they have expressed interest in an all ford test n tune day or two. Like I said, we have to show up in numbers to show the potential success of an all ford day by it's self.
I'd say run Trophy for $20 if they don't have a tnt or just pay the $25 and run Ford No Box. Always 2 times runs before eliminations unless like a trillion cars decide to oil down track. The program on race days runs very fast and there is little down time.
I know I am out to put a hurt'n to that tree and go some rounds this weekend. I may run mod/street saterday and street/Ford No box sunday.

Oh you know I will :rotflol: Gonna swap front springs to 14"x150# as that is what Kevin at Baseline suggested(he said the 175# springs are too stiff). See if I can get some better wheels off the ground moments and plant the slicks a whee bit harder.

Is a MSD 2-step considered "box"?
Trophy is only 12.00 and slower, if I run in there and go faster will they make me switch classes? Or do I just lose my 1st. race after the 2 test passes if I run to quick?
Rio94gt

Id say sounds like electronics to me.:sticktonge:
What you scared to run with the big boys? Youll just have to run in the ford electronics class.
CobraII
07-17-2008, 08:33 PM
Rio, correct, the classes I posted did not include the Ford classes. My guess, strictly my guess, would be the Ford classes would be after Trophy. Also, Mod and Top stage over in the Carmen's Cafeteria lanes (lanes 7 through 10), Street uses lanes 1-4 (looking straight down the track, driver's far left is lane 1), and Trophy uses lanes 5-6.
Mr. Brewer mentioned the same thing to me, if this gets a good turnout, it could lead to an all Ford day.
GM, you won't be allowed to dial quicker than the 12.00 for eliminations in Trophy. You can dial 12.00, and either hope for a red light, or a breakout, or try to play top end. A 2 step is considered electronics, but not a box. "Box" equals delay box, which is connected to a transbrake. This allows a racer to leave off the top bulb, and adjust the amount of delay before the transbrake solenoid releases. Generally, it's 1.0xx, with the 1.0 being the half second (.500 + .500) for each the second and third ambers. No electronics is footbrake launch only.
Ed, that will be cool! I'll try to get up there if you run Mod and snap a pic.
Bob, if you want to try to get Joan out in first round, be last to go up... she'll always be at the back because she runs Street. Just an idea. :D
Rio94gt
07-17-2008, 08:46 PM

So would GM be able to race in the Ford No electronics class?
Yes he can unless he has a Transbrake or Delay box.

Bimini, run the SVT.... it's a Ford, after all, and it's bracket racing. :D I'm a firm believer in running anything. I once went to the final roind in Street driving a Dodge Dynasty that couldn't get out of its own way, 19.97-19.99 consistent as all get out though. :D Ed, did I get you that day?? :D
The stick throws a wrench into what I know of the rulebook. I *think* 2 steps may be allowed for stick cars and still be considered no electronics. If I get some clarification I'll post it. I'm thinking that you should be considered footbrake though, since the car is still foot controlled, as opposed to a transbrake solenoid releasing.
biminiLX
07-18-2008, 12:44 AM
haha, I hear you on running anything and normally do, but I'm not in the position to fix it if I break it right now (read: my wife would kill me after the recent Mustang bills :) )
BTW, 2-steps on sticks should be NO Box from my experience.

Chuck, I don't think a transbrake and a two-step is considered electronics. I don't see any reason GMkiller couldn't run in the no box class.

According to the IHRA, transbrakes and 2 steps are not considered electronics. Mod class runs both. However, you can triple class on Sunday. Ford race, Top and Mod. There are a few racers who race Mod and also double class in Top. Electronics is basically considered the Delay box. No transbrakes or 2 steps permitted in Street class or Trophy class.
Yes, CobraII, I finally made my way here too. It takes me awhile, I'm old, remember!!
