Well I have not run a drag radial on a mustang since 2000 and I don't think I will even attempt to do so ever again. I mean seriously how the hell does anyone get these to hook decent. I figured I'd go to the TnT tonight and see how I could deal with them and maybe run them Saturday.

First pass, 15psi decent burnout leaving at a mild 3500 and instantly spun. Lifted and got back in it cutting a 1.94....bah

Next, drop tires to 14psi, Left at 3000, instant spin but somewhat less and go 1.83...bah again

Softened struts to #1 and again no luck spun with another 1.82

Last pass put tires to 16psi and left at 4000 for hell of it. Spun..go figure and car ran quickest of night a pitiful 13.14@106

Car was an easy 5-6 tenths slower on the drag radial. Hitting rev limiter at top end since they have no growth like a slick and I have it bumped up to 6300. Shift light set at 5700 and was on at 1000' and smacking rev limiter before traps. So back to then junk slicks which at least cut 1.70 sixties and are far lighter to spin.

Only good thing tonight was I found my spot on the tree again. -.002red, .016, -.009 and .010

The Lord giveth (tree). And the Lord taketh away (traction). LOL
I don't race too much and when I did it was on street tires. A buddy loaned me his drag radials and my stockish car would not leave without wheelspin. Ran my worst times ever.
Is there some kind of secret to these things?

man I dunno, I don't have a problem with my nittos. Street or strip, although a few of you guys know how lazy I launch

I just do a quick 2nd gear burnout on teh neatos & zing pow I'm off :rotflol:

Damn... sorry to hear that Ed, though I do wonder if you had tried the MTs if it would have been any better. Did you run with the slick cars? I think that would make a difference. Time for some MT slicks.... maybe you should have taken Mikeys! :D Nice lights though... hope you go some rounds this weekend.

My friend was able to get 1.6s off the rev limiter at PRP on his MT et street radials

Try running the pressure a little lower. I run my drag radials down between 10-12lbs.

This was last year on BFG drag radials. The car felt squirrelly and wouldn't hook at all.

After Watching You Run, I Think Maybe A Lower Launch Rpm Until The Car Bogs Then Go Up From There.

13.14@106

hehehe Put that on the window ;)

Maybe A Lower Launch Rpm

Ha! The answer to all problems automotive related are MORE RPM.

Don't make me the only one that scares Keith. bolt the slicks back on there and race ;)

This past Sunday I ran at QCR on Nitto drags and did a 1.7 60ft. I have line-locks on my car and do a 2nd gear burn-out and heat the sh#t out of my tires. I was pleased with how they hooked. I launched at 3,500 rpm's

Those new Hoosier drag radials are the shit. I would give them a try.

I'm not going to run the BFG's or any other drag radial. The car responds far better with more rpm. Hoosier rep got back to me on my slicks and said they were produced Feb '08 so they are not old. He did offer me another set(same size)of newer production to try and if those don't work he wanted my original set back to analyze.

I'm really not sure if I want to bother with all that. I will continue to run the slicks till they are worn out(current wear rate should make that next sunday  ) and switch to a 28" slick

Ed - Did the Hoosier guy talk to you at all about burnout procedure?

When I was looking at QTP's, a lot of guys talked about them being senstive to burn out procedure. Hit them HARD first pass of the day, then basically just spin them t a haze the rest of the day. Too much and they get greasy. I sure dont have enough time on mive to be sure, but am leaning toward that being true based on last weekend.

As you know, I think they are different compounds, so who knows. As I mentioned, if you want to try my QTP's for a pass at a TnT, let me know ;)

Bob I did check Hoosiers website on any info they had on burnouts before going to track.

Going by the way they say to do it. Well they are right. I normally have been spinning them hard, rolling out and kept spinning them untill they barked/chirped. Then rolled and staged. That is way way wrong. I did it their way today by spinning them and as I let it roll out to slowly drop rpms and then just stage. Friggn car whacks a 1.67 going hard left, I thought I was taking tree out. Next pass a 1.69 straight, another 1.67 straight followed lastly by a 1.69 pulling tires and planting me hard in seat.

These slicks for the first since I bought them stayed sticky after each pass. Ran 12psi in them, tightened front struts up and tightened rear shocks up. I do need a anti-roll bar which I guess I will order up now.

You arent kidding about the hard left, it really went left NOW. I was watching from the car in the lanes, and it scared me ;) You arent the only one to have trouble with that right lane going left today. Others made comment about it, none as wild as yours, but left none the less :D

Mine threw a random ET 2nd round, picked up a tenth on the last pass to break out. Didnt even think about buying into 2nd chance.

Sorry to hear that you didn't have any luck with DR's. I've been in the 1.6's with my nitto DR's in the past, and the night I ran against you I had a best of 1.75 which I felt was great as I've only been to the track twice in the last two years, and I had my front struts set on stiff. The trick I've found is to not shock them with a clutch dump. They respond well to a slip of the clutch to negate wheel spin and bog. I never run my DR's at less than 18lbs as anything less they become unpredictable.
