Hey all - Who out there knows a bunch about the Crown Vic Police Interceptor cars? I learned some about the cars at this site - seemed like a pretty good resource...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Crown_Victoria_Police_Interceptor
I'm thinking about getting one for a winter car and would like a crash course on them, as well as an idea as to what they're worth.
I know someone on here has a few of them - and he was in an accident with one last winter - but I can't remember the screen name.
Thanks!

i have been driving them for years at work.
i use an a 06 unmarked when i am lucky enough to sign it out for the day.
IMO they ride great, great power, although not the greatest in the bad weather. i actually thought about picking one up for myself, but i don't want to drive one in heavy snow.
the 03's and ups are the ones to get-something about the rear suspension on them is easier to change. sure someone can chime in.

that was me that wrecked one last winter...the cars are very dependable very, very heavy duty, easily maintained and handle amazing. you can get them pretty cheap but you would want a 2003+ they upgraded the whole suspesion that year. my last that i bought was a 2003 and i paid 1800$ just gotta watch on e bay and you will come across a good one. i also have spare parts for basically the entire car.

Thanks guys - I appreciate the info.
I only have a 5 mile commute to work, so I'm not really too worried about bad weather performance. The PI cars have limited slip / traction lock, so that should get me by most days. And when the weather is really bad I can carpool with the wife in our Explorer.
Yellow - that seems like a killer deal on that '03 you bought. How many miles were on it and what was the condition? Are the white cars cheaper than the "unmarked" ones that might not have the holes in the interior from all the removed equipment?
I guess this one isn't quite as good of a deal? Let me know what you think...

What do you guys think the car above is worth? I don't need the best of the best - just reliable transportation that will make everyone move over when I come up behind them...
Everything I have seen on ebay has been significantly more expensive and / or very far away, but I can keep looking. Are these cars prone to rust in any particular areas?
Thanks guys!!

There is a guy that is always selling a few PIs off of 65---see them everyday on my way to work, its just a public area people park cars for sale. I can stop and get a number next week if you're interested.

we would always run snow treads on ours, i can remember one winter-we got snowed on early and i had to take my sgts car to the tire shop to switch tires out
unmarked cars will still have all the interior equipment holes-radios,deck and dash lights-but no cages.....usually only exterior holes on them are for antennas
personally i like the unmarkeds better-usually superviors run them and they lead better lives than the marked patrol units.
my florida highway patrol reef blue mustang was a LT car.
BTW there is a place off the rt 48 bridge near wilmerding that also sells all police vehicles---they sold a few of PA's unmarked stangs back in the day!

I think I remember seeing a few PI's sitting in a lot in the Baden area - I'll have to take a ride down there and have a look-see tomorrow evening.
But if you happen to go past, any info you can relay would be a help! :)
I'll have to do a little digging to find about that place in Wilmerding too - thanks PSP!
Thanks dudes!

No problem CST - what I meant was if you could just let me know how many PI's are there - what color they are... General drive-by condition stuff :goodidea: Don't feel like you have to stop and look. I only live about 20-25 minutes from there. I might have to zip down there tomorrow after work before the sun goes down...
Thanks!!

Ron, do you remember my crown vic at your house a while back? Its an 03 with 115k on it. Got it with 45k on it and have never put a dime into it other then normal maint items. Believe me when I tell you, I pound the hell out of it, it runs great and rides great. If you want to check it out and drive it, let me know. There is a place on rt 48 in Monroville called Mosside speciality vehicles, they have a large selection of x patrol units available to the public:goodidea:

Hey Jason - I remember your car. Nice ride. Does your borough have any that will be available soon? Sounds like folks have some good luck with these PI's. Thanks for the info on Mosside - I'll check it out. Would be nice to have a bunch to choose from. :goodidea:

Oh man...if I get one of these and talk about modding IT, I will definitely get the evil eye from the Mrs...
But it sure would be a fun ride...especially with a 6-speed...

Yep, there are ALWAYS 2-3 there---they used to worry me when I'd go flyin by on my way to work, but now I just ignore them. :goodidea:
I just looked at google maps Ron and if I'm seeing it right it is just north of where State Street merges from 65---like CST said, on the left if you're heading towards the city.

One of my buddy's brothers had a Marauder back in Ohio and it was a very fun car---nice to take 5 guys to the bar in. I also went for a spin with Lidio at Alternative Auto after he installed that Eaton swap kit on one----he had to 'road test' it after he tuned my '04 Cobra. It was sweet and really performed well.

Thanks for the directions J - I know exactly where you mean. Tomorrow I'm taking a ride down there after work.
A buddy has a sweet blue '03 Marauder with the Trilogy supercharger on it and he turned 13.3 @ 105+ on 32psi street tires at PRP. They're really neat cars - they handle and brake surprisingly well for being so huge. I'm hoping the Crown Vic PI will be similar in those areas.
