View Full Version : Little assembly of my 351w
Well finally spent some time and got the rotating assembly in. Course after going through my pics I relized I put the main studs in wrong on cap #3. I have to swap them for pickup tube to mount properly. After the first 2 piston/rod groups I got putting spiril locks in for wrist pins down to a science.

Quick placement of heads

Now to pick out a cam, lifters, pushrods, rockers, stud girdle and swap over to 7/16" rocker studs. Heads have 3/8" currently. So much yet to buy - intake, distributer, carb, ignition, oilpan, oil pump, headers. Then there is the transmission and rearend decisions yet. Plus finish tearing down car to repair quarters, cut/repair floor and prep for frame connectors and rollcage

Sweet.
Is that going to be just a 351? What heads are you using? What year block are you using?

Looks good. For some reason looking at pictures of engine builds gets me excited. I wonder if there is a name for that type of perversion?
Sweet.

358 in an '84 block using ProComp 190cc heads. I know the ProComps may not be the best but for them money they sure beat stock cast iron heads I had. Took a chance and they look real good and could use just some minor cleanup here and there. If they don't work out then I'll try something else. Compression should come in around 10.88:1
Car will be about 80%track and some street duty to car cruises and such when done. This will be my toy.

looking great, those look like keith black pistons?? i hope you read the instructions on gapping the top ring looser... do you see how there is a big gap between the ring lands for the compression rings? that gap is part of their piston design, i serves a purpose but it cause lots of heat on the top compression ring, so you have to gap it bigger than the second compression ring.. just a heads up.

x2 they have a special formula on their site that tells you exactly how to figure the top ring gap for their pistons. It probably also came with your pistons
