Just curious. I see a lot of folks that like to "trade" now and then. Either plus money or minus money, what do you tell the Notary when you transfer the titles? Do each of you have to pay PA sales tax on the total value of each respective car? Paying PA sales tax on a used vehicle every time it's sold is already total BS. Just wonder if you just pay tax on the difference when you "trade" or tell me how it's done.
Thanks. :goodidea:

no. when i did one,
we were both at the notary at same time and each did a transfer.
i traded a restored 92 police notchback(the PSP stang) with 150K+ miles for an 01 GT at the time with 40K miles......
it was legit car for car even though a price guide probably wouldn't agree!
only paid the transfer fees, no BS tax.

When I sold the Cobra and got the 90 GT if I remember correctly each vehicle was treated as a gift and neither one of us paid any sales tax.

when i traded Brian my mustang for his mustang and camaro, they were just given as gifts also and no sales tax.. Just paid the fee for the notary doing it which was 100 combined for both vehicles

depends on the notary i found out. some will do gift of venue and others wont, a few notories i know stop doing the gift transfer, they said harrisburg doesnt allow it anymore cause they were loosing money but i found out it's not true. i've done a few since then at other notaries under gift of venue. paid no taxes.
