Reason im asking is I got accepted to go to the Ocean City Maryland PD the weekend of Jan. 3 and 4 to do a written test, physical test, and then an oral board interview, and if I pass those, then its on to the academy in the summer. Im nervous as hell, I know I'll pass the written and physical tests, but its the board interview im worried about. Anyone have any similar experiences or advice? I been freaking out about it. thanks guys. clark.

anyway good luck if you decide to go

my friend from high school that goes to wanyesburg had two friends do that during the summer, he went down and lived with them for a couple months. I met the one kid when i was down there on vacation and he was a real dick. so if he passed a board of interviewers i think you should be ok:goodidea:

Some advice for the oral board...
Boards can vary in terms of what they ask and what they look for.
Remember that these people interview a ton of applicants and are fairly good at judging your appearance/speech. Looking and sounding your best is an understatement. Obvious lies and telling stories will not help.
Think of potential questions they might ask you. For example, Why do you want to be a police officer? Why this department? Don't try and script responses but have a general idea of what you would say when asked various questions.
Research beforehand the structure of the organization and the hierarchy (# of officers, the chief's name, etc). You also should research the area in and around the department's jurisdiction. In your case, knowing population size and how many people do not have permanent residence helps.
It pays to appear as if your desire to be an officer is natural. Boards usually frown upon the "get some" personality types.
I've never been before a board but have listened to too many local/state/federal law enforcement personnel speak about the recruitment process.
How come you're not seeking a local academy/PD? You make a tough job even tougher by being an out-of-town rookie.

thank you for the good advice. the reason im not looking at local PD's right now is because alot of kids my age do this whole OC thing because it looks good on a resume for somewhere else. They pay for your act 120, they have their academy which pays you nicely once your accepted, and then you have the chance to be full time down there. Also, its just good experience and down their I have a better chance of being hired because of all the summer employment that they need. I eventually want to apply for the Pennsylvania State Police once I get my degree.

Excellent advice. I've never been through this type of board process either, but you're essentially interviewing for an important job. Treat it as such, with professionalism. Make eye contact, give a good firm handshake if you have the opportunity, don't fidget around, speak clearly.
Some other questions you may be asked:
What's your strongest point (character/personality wise)?
What's your weakest point?
Those can catch you off guard. In interviews throughout my life, those have always been tough, as well as situational questions (what would you do in this situation? and then they give you an example).

First off, they are probably gonna be Patrolman, Cpl's, Sgt's and maybe some brass on the board. Each of them have their own personality. One may be over aggresive, one not so and the other one, well maybe close to retirement. So take the middle of the road!
So with that said, obviously purchase a SUIT! Not a shirt and tie with kachi pants. Get a hair cut the day before the interview. Make sure you do not have facial hair, check their policy on having a mustache, if they do not permit them, shave yours if you have it. When you go into the interview, shake everyone's hand on the board. Sit in your seat and sit up right with your hands on your knees and feet flat on the floor. When they ask you a question, do not hurry up and blurt out an answer, think about what you are going to say and say it. This shows that you process things before you act or speak. DO NOT MOVE AROUND OR USE YOUR HANDS TO TALK. Use YES or NO not yeah or nah! Police work should be ran like a para military organization so saying sir or maam is helpful. While answering the question, try to make eye contact with the oral board panel. This demonstrates that you have confidence in yourself. Finally when you are finished and they excuse you, shake their hands when you leave and thank them.
I hope that this information is helpful to you. Good luck and hopefully you achieve your goals of joining our ranks in the State Police. :goodidea:

Well, I almost did it. I had a conditional offer of employment from the PA State Police. All I had to do was show up at the acamedy and make it through, but chose not to do it. I wasn't crazy about working turns and the pay cut would of bee too much, especially for the 6 months I would of been in the acamedy.

Well, this past weekend I did my testing, oral interview, all that good stuff.
Today I get a giant packet in the mail, the first page of which says: " After reviewing the results of your performance in our recent applicant testing process, I am pleased to extend to you a "Conditional Offer" of employment with the Ocean City Police Department".
I am so f'ing happy right now.
I wanna thank everyone for the good advice and tips that they gave me, as they no doubt helped me in this process.
