Here it comes! Merry Christmas....

More happy news ?? - It's already beginning......
It's the ammo, not the guns !
They said for a long time that they wouldn't go for your guns, but going for your ammo your ammo...
Guns have a Constitutional protection. Ammo does not.
A list of states where this legislation is pending is in the final paragraph.
Not in CO or NM yet, they'll go where the pansies are first.
Gun owners had better TAKE ACTION on this one or you (we) are done for.

Ammunition Accountability Act

Heads up to all of you who swore to defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign AND domestic.
Let your state Legislatures know that we do not want this bill passed, and petition them to vote no on this bill. We should keep after them until the bill is closed by bombarding them with e-mails, phone
calls, and letters.

Get to all your politicians to get to work and NOT LET THIS HAPPEN!!!
The 2008 Legislative session has begun, and the Ammunition Accountability Act is being introduced across the country.
Below is a list of states where legislation has already been introduced: Alabama, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Washington.
http://ammunitionaccountability.org/Legislation.htm

Remember how Obama said that he wasn't going to take your guns? Well, it seems that his minions and allies in the anti-gun world have no problem
with taking your ammo!

The bill that is being pushed in 18 states (including
Illinois and Indiana) requires all ammunition to been coded by the manufacture, a data base of all ammunition sales. So they will know how much you buy and what calibers. Nobody can sell any ammunition after June 30,2009 unless the ammunition is coded.

Any privately held uncoded ammunition must be destroyed by July 1, 2011.

(Including handloaded ammo.) They will also charge a .05 cent tax on every round so every box of ammo you buy will go up at least $2.50 or more! If
they can deprive you of ammo they d o not need to take your gun!

would ammo stores be able to get around this by saying 'buy xyz product at some ridiculous price, get a case of ammo for free'? and um.. not be taxed on the ammo since it's a promotion?

just a thought :)

6 months ago, I bought a +2 clip for my Glock 26 at Gander Mountain for 29.99. I thought that was expensive, but it was the only place I could find them. I was up there last week and they are 39.99 now. I asked the guy if the tag was mis-marked and he told me NO, they went up 10 bux and walked away.

Holy Cows. Shit, with 3 clips and 800 rounds, I'll have enough to shoot the first 20 or 30 citizen soldiers before they call the PSP SERT team in to blast my house full of tear gas and run me over with a bulldozer.

Give us some warning on when this is going to happen. I would rather come out and watch live since I don't have High Def TV here ;)

I don't get it? I could care less if the government knows how much ammo I buy. I don't plan on cappin' anyone in the ass anytime soon, so go ahead and code it. Nowhere does it say that they are limiting purchase amounts or "taking away ammo". I read both the U.S. proposal and the state bill. As far as the tax goes, what else is new. Somebody gotta help pay for bailouts.... The only problem I can see is bad guys stealing used casings repacking them and shooting each other and innocent Joe Blow that just left the firing range is in jail, cuz his empty casings were stolen from the recycle bin and used in a drive-by. We should bitch more about our gas being .40 more a gallon than across the border in Ohio.

There's nothing to stop the government form banning Ammunition, I don't think the second amendment covers what comes out the hole on the end. Or will primers go to 100 Bux each, powder 1000 Bux a Lb. It's called users fees and you don't need a Bill to in act it. California is tagging a 35 cent per gallon users fee and no one can stop them.. Will there be a users fee on HP is that next?
There outta control.

I'm glad I have been buying ammo for a while, up to 6k of 5.56, plus bunches of 9mm. I also have lots of loading components.

Thing is, if this law is passed you won't be able to buy ammo, it will force ammo manufactures to comply, then the cost will be passed on to the consumer which I guarantee it will end up being alot more than .05 a round. So now the only ones that will be able to buy ammo would be, guess who? The govt and LE, so this will kill the 2nd ammendment in very short period of time without banning guns, like having a car with no gas, it's useless.

Its like anything else. If its popular and they (greedy money hungry governing bodys) think they can squeeze an extra dime outta people, they're gonna do it. Anyone who doesn't own a firearm won't care and will probably be for it, figuring "if they tax that, they won't tax the thing I like". It goes around and around. I think the government just sees it as a newly discovered money tree and not a beginning to a end of gun ownership.

I don't get it?

You're right, you don't get it.

It has nothing to do with the government collecting a little extra income...it has everything to do with the government levying MASSIVE taxes on ammunition that makes it unnattainable for regular people- making your guns worthless. What good is a rifle without cartridges for it?

This is a tactic that's been used in the past- the National Firearms Act of 1933 was the first instance- the federal government was afraid to outright ban machineguns because of the Second Amendment...so, instead, the levied an extremely high tax (for it's day) on them, and required all owners to be able to produce evidence that they'd paid this tax. Since no one but the very, very wealthy could afford the tax, machine guns were effectively banned.

Doctors vs Gun owners :jump:

Doctors

(A) The number of physicians in the U.S. is

700,000

(B) Accidental deaths caused by Physicians
per year are 120,000

(C) Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171.

Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept of
Hea l th and Human Services.
> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Now think about this:

Guns

(A) The number of gun owners in the U.S.
is 80,000,000.
(Yes, that's 80 million)

(B) The number of accidental gun deaths
per year, all age groups, is
1,500.

(C) The number of accidental deaths
per gun owner is 0.000188.

Statistics courtesy of FBI
> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

So, statistically, doctors are approximately
9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.
> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Remember, 'Guns don't kill people, doctors do.'

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

FACT: NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN, BUT
ALMOST EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE DOCTOR.
> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Please alert your friends
to this
alarming threat.

We must ban doctors

before this gets completely out of hand!!!!!
> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Out of concern for the public at large,
I withheld the statistics on lawyers

My 2 (now 5) cents...

If the state wants my name connected to my ammo, whatever. They don't have to use a database to find me - if I ever have to shoot someone chances are I'll be the first person that calls 911. Taxing me 5 cents a round? I don't think so.

Fortunately, I highly doubt this legislation will ever pass. I'll do my part anyway...co-sponsor Dan Frankel just happens to be my district's state rep. Guess who just lost a vote?

Anyway this best sums up the current state of the bill:

Gun owners dodge tax on ammunition (http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/news/s_600510.html) - Tribune Review Nov 28, 2008

Also, somewhere I read that reloaders would be exempt but this is sketchy.
