For a weekend-only GT 5.0 Vert, would you buy an SQ-Trim or an S-Trim?

id do V3 self contained personally. no oil lines.
but the V2SQ is just newer and makes less noise i believe.

Yeah, the main question is regarding the whining noise between the S-Trim and SQ-Trim. I am just not sure that I want a supercharger that is too loud but then again I would be disappointed if I could barely hear it too.
As for the oil lines, I really don't mind that too much. I figure it avoids buying expensive oils, I change my oil very often and I can then add an oil cooler.
I also figure that the V3 head units are a good bit more $$ and I am trying to keep the budget down.
So... Louder (S-Trim) or Quieter (SQ-Trim) ?

For the S-Trim, I may need to get some more aggressive mufflers. I bought the car with what looks like a flowmaster catback system on it but the exhaust system is still pretty mild as for loudness. I figure an S-Trim would need to be balanced out with louder exhaust.
Do superchargers change the way the exhaust sounds too?

the S really isn't that loud, i have one right now. the SQ is capable of make a few more psi.

My sq is noticable at idle, but once over 1500 rpms all you hear is exhaust. Do you have a h or x pipe? Most of your volume from your exhaust comes from ditching the cats.
My exhaust note stayed the same although im only running 6 pounds of boost. They say the sq make a few more ponies than the s-trim.
It's all what you want, do want you and everyone else to hear and know you have a blower? If so go s-trim, but if you want something a little more docile and sleeper like, go sq.
Also, the sq has more of a whistle sound where the s sounds more likes its chewing on gravel/whistle sound, as far as intercoolers go you can get an aftercooled kit and some people even make custom air to air coolers for vortechs on popular cars.

Thanks!
I don't have any h or x pipe mods. Only stock exhaust in the middle. I do have headers and a cat-back. Didn't want to get into any problems with state inspection and stuff so... maybe someday I can look at a pipe with high-flow cats or something. For now I may just want to put some different mufflers on the car to try and get some deeper tone out of it ... I like the sound of the Borlas but I don't know if I can afford them right now.
As for the SQ-trim, some say that they get noisier over time as they wear in. Did yours get louder over time that you noticed?
As for the after cooler... on the 94/95 cars I am having a hard time finding any sort of aftercooler that would fit. If you know of anyone showing how to fit a custom one to my year, let me know. I am going to end up with either an S or SQ trim for sure.

Mine has roughly 2500 miles on it and it still sounds the same to me.
You may want to look into air to air intercoolers for your setup. I know SHM makes custom kits. You could even pick up a nice intercooler on ebay and fab all the plumbing.

You must have a V2 then. Mine is very loud.

V1 i know the difference. have you ever heard a big blower? i didn't say the S was quiet, but it's not that bad

Rob did you get rid of the t-trim and get an s-trim? Loud all the way! My exhaust got much louder when I was running 15 psi BTW.

Yeah Mark. I traded for an S and some cash. Now I need the T back. AHHAH Got some trick flows and some other gooddies. Oh, and its pretty loud under boost.

I thought the Si trim was an S-trim upgrade and the SQ was just quieter?
I guess the choice is if you want it more noticeable at idle---it is cool but never having one, not sure if it gets old.

Does anyone who owns the S-Trim on a 5.0 car know about at which RPM the boost starts to kick in? Mine is a 95 GT with some Cobra engine parts.
I know that the centrifugal superchargers are not as instantaneous as the roots-style blowers but does anyone know how early the S-Trim does start to kick in?

id say average is 2500-3000. thats when mine starts

Depends on the pulley combination. I "see" boost if I want to at 2000. I also "see" 14psi up around 52-5300.

Wick, why the quotes around "see"?

Cause if I look at my boost gauge which I usually dont, I "see" boost. Just being a smart ass. hahahahahahaaa

Ok, I picked up an S-Trim. Cannot wait to put it on.
Still accumulating parts for the install.
If I want to put two 2 1/6 gauges (Fuel Pressure and Boost) in a dash pod that replaces my clock, can anyone recommend some gauges? I didn't want to spend a ton on the gauges. Was looking for black face to match stock GT gauge color.
