Definitely awesome but it's going to be short lived the way the Big East is stacked this year. Nice to finally have that little accolade but gat damn they gotta do something in March for once. For this Pitt team anything less than final four is going to be a big diappointment.

They will never make it passed the sweet 16 to get to the final four. LOL

I love it! Congrats to Jamie Dixon and the Panthers. I'm hoping this is the year they make some noise in the tourney. DeJuan Blair is The Man!

I'm a huge basketball fan as I was a former college player and coach and am glad for the Panthers that they got the #1 ranking, but like Bonecrusher stated, I have a feeling it will be short lived since playing in the Big East. That conference is hands down the best league in the country this year and there are no easy wins on their schedule. As far as Jamie Dixon and DeJuan Blair... I'm not a huge fan of Mr. Personality (Dixon), but I do give him credit to him for keeping the program where it was when Howland was there. I never thought he would be able to do that. At the college level Blair is a man child, but I'm anxious to see what happens if/when he makes the jump into the league. He has great potential but is very undersized to play the 4 so he must work on his guard skills. For those of you who follow the NBA, my gut feeling is that he will end up like Jason Maxiell (sp) who plays for the Pistons. Which is nothing to be ashamed of.

Not true,,, They were ranked #1 a few years ago.. although it only lasted about 6 hrs..... About time Pitt gets alittle recognition. :goodidea:

I started off at a small-mid D1 but transferred to Cal U for my last 2 years when my coach got fired. I was the assistant coach at Pitt-Johnstown.

I can never remember them being ranked #1, not in hoops, and I go back to the Sam Clancy days. The Post Gazette says first time also.

Last year or the year before that, they were ranked #2 and whoever was #1 got beat late in the week (Thurs or Fri) and Pitt would have been #1, but they ended up losing their game that Saturday and then fell back in the rankings.
