That "can't beat a team 3 times in a year" is crap. I did want the Titans to win so the Steelers could go down there and stomp the crap out of them. But, it's nice to have another home game here. The Ravens are hurting, it will be more Pittsburgh weather... as long as Ben plays like he did yesterday, I don't see the Ravens having enough. GO STEELERS!!!

I think Baltimore can handle this weather as well. This is going to be a grinder for sure, I hope we can pull it off.

Ben looked good but if parker can run the ball the way he did yesterday we should be fine. We need to get in the grille of Flacco and make him look like rivers running around like an idiot making stupid decisions and bad throws. That Rookie's gonna choke, they always do.:highfive:

All Ben did was play up to his ability. We all saw yesterday what happens with the O-line actually blocks someone for once..... If they can keep Ben from getting crushed, he will do just as good again - however, if they let the defense have free shots at him like they have all season, then he won't play any better than he has all season....

I think the Steelers will be ok this upcoming week. Won't be an easy game, but I think we're going to Tampa

It is definitely going to be a violent game. I can't wait! Its all on the o-line, if they protect Ben and make holes for Parker therre sould be no problem.

steelers have a good oline but with the caliber of players that are in the nfl today they cant hold a defense off forever while a worthless qb sits in the pocket pump fakes 5-6 times and takes 15seconds to do a check down of his recievers ben is the most over rated over paid qb in the nfl right now. his fundamentals of the game are terrible. he has a name because of one year of coming in and they win a superbowl. the steelers gm and ceo like that he fills seats in the stadium leftwich is by far a better qb but he doesnt bring the fan base that a young white steeler qb does pittsburg and thats why ben is the start qb for them. sorry for the rant but i had to get that out there.

I also think Bruce needs to keep using a fullback like he did against the chargers for once...thats why we ran as good as we did

sounds simple enough! very accurate...

havent seen that kinda speed on the edge from Parker in quite some time, nice to see him get his legs back too...

i just wish they would get Ben some better & tall receivers...they tried with Limas Sweed, but this kid looks like a deer in headlights right out of the gates...and i like to hold judgement for at least 3 years...lol...hopefully he comes around...

either way, f' baltimore...:goodidea:

Put any other QB in for the steelers and watch them get demolished. Ben is elusive and hard to take down, Linebackers have made the comment that he is the hardest to get down in the league. I'm no Ben fan by any means, but stating that leftwich is a better QB is :loco:

if thats the case that any qb would be demolished then why did leftwich have no problems throwing the ball when he was in the game a few weeks back. ben isnt elusive by any means his line slows the defenders down enough in the time that they get to him he can make small movements to get away. take a look at this this ball should of already been in the air or since he is to be said so elusive he should stepped up in the pocket and this sack would have never taken place. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XcwXBMDk9p0

its not a bandwagon, its proof in results...

byron leftwich lost his job to david garrard in jacksonville, byron leftwich lost his job to joey harrington in atlanta...i cant even grasp the fact that people think he is a better option than roethlisberger...

byron leftwich would be the 3rd qb in pittsburgh if charlie batch was healthy...and on top of that, if charlie batch was healty...byron leftwich would be out of football...thats why the steelers have dennis dixon as a 3rd option...so leftwich is lucky to have a job...period

Alright here is your "proof in results" laz2447...

how about the Redskins game back in November???

Ben played the entire first half.
Leftwich played the entire second half.

Both had same O-line, same recievers and same running backs to work with and same defense to go against..

Big Ben: 5/17, 50 yards, 0 TD, 1 Interception
Leftwhich: 7/10, 129 yards, 1 TD, 0 Interceptions

100% Equal play, but much better results by Leftwich

and no, Batch would never start in front of leftwich, batch is just terrible

BUT, if he didn't get hurt we wouldnt have even picked up Leftwich so it doesnt really matter

Balaska347
01-12-2009, 03:56 PM
I'm not a big fan of Ben nor do I dislike Leftwich. I also agree with points that several of you made about either QB but I would rather have Ben then Leftwich 9 outta 10 times. Yeah Ben has bad games as does every QB but if Leftwich started 16 games I don't believe we would be where we are today. We definitely wouldn't have a better record. If Leftwich was that good he wouldn't have lost his job twice and be in the position he is in now. Call it the Big Ben bandwagon if you like but don't forget about the "I hate big ben because everyone else likes him" bandwagon.

Definitely not on that one....ive disliked Ben well before we got Leftwich. Don't get me wrong, i dont think he is terrible, i just think he panics too much in the pocket and makes some bad choices too often.

watch him next time the defense is rushing, he'll go ape sh*t. Now i wouldnt be opposed to that if he ran the ball like he used to...but he doesnt do that anymore and just takes a sack or throws a pick. Dont know why he stopped running it like he once did...

I agree he does look stupid running around and makes some bad decisions sometimes. His coaches are the ones that want him to stay in the pocket but he should throw it away if no one is open. I don't think Ben is the best QB in the league but if he wins games and takes us deep into the post season who cares how he does it.

yeah i agree with that...i think a lot of it has to do with Bruce Arians, i dont like the direction he took our offense but i am glad he put a fullback in against the chargers...we need that....but i still wish we had Ken

Ummmm, I've seen every QB have that happen to them. Why dont we find all of the positive yardage plays he made from nothing on you tube.

It's easy to have more bad plays or games when you play the majority of the time. You think our record would be better had Leftwich started every game? Leftwich is and always will be a back up.

Big ben is a good quarter back per se but elusive ..thats bs...n hard to bring down only cuz he's still recovering from so many shots to the head including that motorcycle accident. He's not the smartest qb ive seen. pitts going to the superbowl but not on big ben's shoulders. this ones a team effort. But the thing you left out is the rest of ben's team!!! without holmes....parker....ward...big ben is nothing....he's not a leader. he may be the commander on the field but they dont look to him for that big play. They are the true meaning of a TEAM!!! everyone has contributed. Not relying that one big pass for ben to make or for elway to make his comeback. They pull together, make the little plays to win games. Thats why pitt will win this year...they are the true meaning of a team! there's no I coming from anyone on that team. Its all bout recognizing everyone else for their blocks to free willie or for holmes to make a diving catch cuz ben didnt put it right on the money. the soul arguement here is leftwich maybe the better TRUE quarterback but for this team it doesnt matter. they all play well together. No kidding it's a team effort, take Ben off the feild and they will be sitting home, it's that simple. If you can't see this guy is a leader and a very good QB then you don't watch the same Steelers I do. For most of the year his line stunk, he got alot of pressure and was sacked a bunch, yet he somehow manages to get the job done. There is not another QB in the NFL that can get out of trouble and still make big plays as often as he does. It's funny, they are in the AFC championship game and yet some people still scream for the 2nd string QB, which by the way is usually the most favorite player not on the feild:rofl:

im amazed that this thread went 6 pages and all you people did was rant about big ben. ive been following football for as long as ive been old enough to watch tv and james harrison is not only the most physically dominant linebacker ive ever seen wear a steelers jersey (bold statement), but maybe the best linebacker ive ever seen play. I was too young to see LT so dont start there. He has been held in every game of the season and never gets calls. refs feel sorry for OTs and TEs that have to try to block him. hes absolutely relentless and shows no mercy or regard for his own body. hes the hardest working player on the team but everyone in pittsburgh shines the light on ben and the offense. JAMES HARRISON and TROY POLAMALU are the reason we are even in the playoffs.

All Ben did was play up to his ability. We all saw yesterday what happens with the O-line actually blocks someone for once..... If they can keep Ben from getting crushed, he will do just as good again - however, if they let the defense have free shots at him like they have all season, then he won't play any better than he has all season....

After reading this thread, history certainly has a way of repeating itself. Back in the heyday 70's, many of the things that are currently being said about about Big Ben, Terry Bradshaw was being tagged with. Pittsburgh fans will not change. Bradshaw, like Ben, had games where he made bad decisions, threw int's, basically sucked, but had a way of making the big play when it was needed most. The Steelers' backup QB is ALWAYS better than the starter. Look at the future HOF QB's that played behind Bradshaw; Terry Hanraty, Joe Gilliam, Mike Kruczek. I remember Steelers fans calling for Bradshaws head and wanting one of these guys to play. WTF?

Bradshaw ended up being a winner. One of the best big game QB's to ever play the game, 4 time Super Bowl winner, Super Bowl MVP, and a Pittsburgh sports icon. Never had garish stats, didn't need to. Played on teams with great defenses. Did just enough to win. See the parallel's?

This will be the third AFC Championship game the Steelers will have played in in the 5 years with Ben as the starting QB. One Super Bowl win under his belt, with a possible trip to a second Super Bowl days away. Pretty damn good in my book. I'm not saying that the play of Big Ben is the sole reason for this run, the Steelers are a very good team, but without him, the Steelers are at home watching this game.
Rant over LOL

One Super Bowl win under his belt, with a possible trip to a second Super Bowl days away. Pretty damn good in my book. I'm not saying that the play of Big Ben is the sole reason for this run, the Steelers are a very good team, but without him, the Steelers are at home watching this game.
Rant over LOL

Well said.

And X2 jcelli... Harrison got mugged in plain view, the only thing missing was a weapon, and the refs still didn't call it. He has some years to go of producing as he has the past 2 seasons to be mentioned as an all time great, but there is no doubt of how hard he works. What a great story... undrafted, cut 4-5 times, still plays special teams.

Join me in prayer, Steeler fans... :):):)

Our Father,
Who Art in Pittsburgh,
Football Be Thy Game.
Thy Kingdom Come,
5 Super Bowls Won,
On Earth as it is in Heinz Field.
Give us this Day a playoff Victory,
And forgive us our penalties,
As we defeat those who play against us.
But lead us into a victory,
And deliver us to Tampa!
A-Ben
Go STEELERS

so we aren't allowed to have an opinion just because they are doing good?

Everyone's allowed to have an opinion. Yours is stupid though. They're winning...so stop criticizing them needlessly. The last year they won the Super Bowl one of my friends told me they were done around game 9 and that they were awful...****in Pittsburgh fans.

No, not directly at you... but toward anyone that thought this was a cool idea - and most importantly - toward Mayor Luke himself..... he must not have anything better to do than make a public spectacle out of stupid crap like this....

o well, it doesn't really upset me, even though my words make it sound like it - i just thought it was dumb, that's all

Real mature! how old are you?!?! 12!?!?...see its guys like you that ruin a good car forum.
my point was simple.....the steelers are a good team..but big ben doesnt carry the weight.....they dont need him..but ben needs them. but maybe u werent smart enough to see that...you had to turn into a real prick and take personal shots instead of giving examples as to why i should believe that big ben is such a great quarterback as you claim.

Opinions can't be stupid? OK, some people are of the opinion that white people are superior to black people. Do you think that's a stupid opinion? Or is it not stupid just because it's an opinion?

good point, i guess you are right....yet i still disagree with you saying that pittsburgh fans are dumb just because they have opinions when the steelers are doing good. But it seems like you wouldnt care if the steelers suck.

o well thats all the more i'm going to say about this whole discussion cause its already beat to death:goodidea:

Wow. Ok. Now I'll interject my two cents.

I just think its hilarious that people with common interests can't even communicate on a forum without it turning personal or into middle school bickering. Seriously people.

How does a thread about the steelers end up with absolutely pointless and ignorant quotes like the one above that adds no value to anything on this site?

So some people like Ben. Some don't. So instead of having a healthy discussion about it, people are called morons and take personal shots at one another. Real cool.

Is it any mystery as to why so many of the cool people I've met on here through the years don't log on anymore? It's just a shame to see what the site has turned into. Its also a big slap to the face of Lou and the others that put time into trying to keep this place up and running.

This thread has turned into a waste of space. I would lock it.

I gave my reasons why he is a good QB, go back and read my posts:rolleyes:, it's guys like you who came into the thread with negativity. Bottom line is they are where they are at because of the team, and he is a big part of the team. You say you are not a steeler fan then you come here and bash one of the players who got them where they are, yes he does stink and should be cut next year and replaced with who? Leftwich:rofl:

This coming from someone who adds fuel to the fire, you did'nt like my comment about the Pens folding like a cheap suit so you decided to stir the pot in this thread. Sorry but I call it like I see it, if it offended you well then, get over it.

No, I don't get uptight about an internet forum.

I took your suit comment in the pens thread as a joke and responded in a joking manner. I was not adding any fuel to any fire. My apologizes if it came off that way.

EDIT: Also, I was already in this thread stating and discussing my opinion before your suit comment for what its worth. Seems as if you're the one that got offended. And here we go again and right back to the crap I posted like three posts up. This shouldn't even have to be posted. This thread shouldn't have gone in this direction and I shouldn't have to defend myself like a juvenile. Its just so trivial. Just sad.
