Just came back from the D.J (district justice) and got off from the speeding ticket I got back in Nov. I was pulled over back in Nov. for doing 58 in a 35mph zone. The fine was $164.00. I fought it and i'm glad I did. The cop never showed and i'm getting all my $$$ back and know points. Thats why I always say fight your tickets.:woot1::pepper:

Sweet. So you basically got out of it because the cop was a no-show?

thats correct, if your cop doesnt show, (unless another stands in for him, which rarely happens) the ticket is thrown out

WRONG!
It surprises me how many people still think this nowadays, even though there are people that have been slammed even though the cop didn't show...
I had a careless driving ticket that i had to fight... cop didn't show... and the judge made me tell my story... he questioned the hell out of me - and knowing the cop wasn't there, i MIGHT have stretched the truth a bit... hehe... i got off, but only b/c the cop wasn't there to conflict my statements...
The judge could have easily just said he didnt believe me and found me guilty... how do i know? b/c its happened to me.. I've been to 6 different magistrates, and the ONLY ticket i was innocent on, was the ONLY one i've been found guilty for.

i fought a speeding ticket where the cop didnt show because he was on duty at an accident or something. because his no-show was work related i had to reschedule my hearing and ended up missing 2 days of work over it. in the end i got the points dropped which is good enough for me.

even if you loose the hearing, send in an over payment for the ticket. Example: Ticket is $175, send them a check for $178. They are forced to mail you a refund check, never cash the check and the case is never closed, meaning no tickets or nothing on your record. I've done this twice now....:)
EDIT: This will only work if you send a partial payment before the hearing. Most Magistrates if you call and tell them you can't afford the ticket, they'll accept a partial payment so the hearing can procede.
