One question.
Sullivan intake (modified to fit GT heads by Champion Racing Heads in FL)
What had to be modified exactly? Is the angle different or is there more to it like the ports not lining up?

shawnsvtcobra

Man i love that build.

95riosnake
02-25-2009, 04:41 PM
Wow, that is a monster :bowing:

What kind of hood are you gonna run to clear that intake? Looks like it'll need about a 4" cowl...which will be a shame to have to switch hoods because that air brush work on the underside of your current hood looks sick :goodidea:

Very very nice build up. That engine should make crazy power. I like the placement of coil packs under intake, nice little touch. Looks like a 6" cowl hood will be needed to clear that intake setup.

97LaserRed

Yea, now that I look at it, you're right. I would personally run a 4" cowl with a cut out in the middle for the intake, or cut it and mold a fiberglass bump to the hood to clear it. Just not a fan of 6" cowls on cars that go anywhere but the track

Here's a picture so you can see the amount of work needed to shift the ports over to match the GT heads.

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n28/98saleen/100_1496.jpg

I'm also going to have to change hoods.
I have purchased a HO Fibertrends 3.5" cowl for it.
I'm going to make it clear the intake (even if I have to mill the intake hat to clear) but I am going to cut 2 holes in the hood for the turbos!!!!!!!!

Here's a CONCEPT picture to get an idea.
Think this will be SICK??? :)

:bowing:

looks tough! I never understood people wanting to hide their turbos, so I am definitely a big fan of your idea, lol. I mean really, why hide them behind the front bumper? Sleeper? Meh, unless you are out on the streets, making money at street racing the car, a sleeper is kinda pointless in my book. Plus it would take one gullible idiot to hear a turbo car running and think it was N/A. Just my .02 though...

Very nice, great pipe work.
BTW, I'd recommend some heat insulation.
If I'd start over I'd have had my whole hot side coated by Swain Tech (real ceramic).
I just finished wrapping my headers (DEI makes great stuff) and the reduction of heat and a little noise was excellent but the coating would be better.

Can't wait to throw some boost and timing to it and really see what it can do!

Just riding around on the street the last 2 days has been awesome.

This was at 13 pounds, then 19 pounds, then 22.5 pounds.
Due to me having too much 93 octane in the tank, we decided not to turn it over 5800rpms for the 19# and higher boost runs.

As a matter of fact, I have yet to run drag radials on this thing.

You'll never find close to the potential w/o DRs. I doubt it would be too much fun until 4th w/o them even on the street. I won't drive a car at your power level w/o DRs but thats my preference from experience.
I really hope you get a few passes before---at your power level untested you risk looking like many of the other previous KOTS dyno queens.

So, how was the event?
I know they don't tell you the winner yet, but how was it?
-J

Overall I had a blast.
Car spun the tires on the rollers...twice and I only got a reading of 772 rwhp.
The day we left to go to this event, we actually got up to 1150 rwhp (SAE) and 1170 rwhp (STD) with 28 pounds of boost.
I left it at this setting (I was greedy) and should have turned it down for that smaller dyno.

The drive-ability test went perfect. Car did everything right. Hope I got great marks on this......

The dragstrip was up and down.
1st pass I spun bad in 1st and 2nd and got a 1.91 60 foot time.
Missed 4th gear (I think my blocker rings wouldn't allow the shift at high rpms) and coasted to an 11.34 @ 126 mph.
2nd pass I had a 1.98 60 foot time, but it was pulling hard mid-track....when my driveshaft broke at the top of 3rd gear.
I immediately pulled out of the groove and was hard on the brakes.....to the time of 11.80 @ 90 mph.

Since I didn't kill the dyno or the track, I suppose I'll end up about mid-pack. Oh well.
I had a great time and met some cool people.

Here's my recent dyno where I ran the car on pump gas only.

93 octane
18 pounds of boost
900 rwhp SAE
925 rwhp STD

I also found my Blitz boost controller is reading peak boost which is spiking on the initial hit and is about 4 pounds off from actual.
So when my gauge reads 26 pounds, I'm really only seeing about 22 pounds!!!
So my "high boost and race gas" tuneup will make significantly more than my previous 1150 rwhp once I upgrade my wastegate springs and can get an actual test on a true 28 pounds!!! I can't wait! Should be doing this around next month.

Here's the dyno sheet for the 93 octane and 18# pull.

It's been about a year since this thead had any action...... :)

Here's a recent report -

Quick Project Update -
Special thanks to Caleb for getting the Saleen on the dyno this past Friday!
We made a few pulls to check out the combo after I recently installed my new wastegate springs.
Right off the street at 22 pounds of boost it made - 1063 rwhp.
2nd pull at 25 pounds of boost it made - 1141 rwhp.
3rd pull at 28 pounds of boost it made - 1200 rwhp (pegged dyno software, but Caleb figures it would've been about 1220ish rwhp)
4th pull at 30 pounds of boost it made 1177 rwhp (lots of backpressure with 3 inch exhaust and pancaked tubes to clear front tires)

What we've determined -
1. Caleb never touched the tune. Just increased the boost pressure and the car responded each time with 11.0 to 1 air fuel ratio. So my only hold back from turning boost from 19 pounds (street) to 28 pounds is simply a matter of putting in straight 116 octane versus 93 octane.
2. Car is at the limit of its combo with the full 3 inch exhaust and muffler system. In order to make more power, I need bigger downpipes and exhaust or just take exhaust off all together.
Neither of these are choices I care to make.
However the plan is over the winter to redo my exhaust pipes around the front tires and get rid of the pancakes ( :) ) more for visual than for power (but if it helps then that is a added benefit).
This car has far exceeded my expectations.
It drives great on 93 octane and knocks out almost 1,000rwhp with cold A/C.
It makes 1200rwhp on C16 fuel with a restrictive exhaust.
It's capable of being driven anywhere.
Thanks to Caleb and Melvin for all the hard work and extra attention to detail on this project and build.
I am very happy with the end result.

Well it's been a little bit since I updated this thread.

Took the car to a local 1/4 mile race event.
Ran on my M/T 18" drag radials, 93 octane, and 19 pounds of boost.

Here's how my passes went down -
Pass 1 -
2.83 sixty foot
12.02 @ 148mph

Pass 2 -
2.14 sixty foot
11.30 @ 145mph

Pass 3 -
Broke on starting line
Twisted viper output shaft in half.

Was bogging car off line....then it would hit and spin in 1st.
2nd pass it spun and hit rev limiter in 1st and 2nd...track was not in good condition.

Thread update!

Well I got the trans fixed and back in the car.
I then found I had a bad vibration.
Turns out the driveshaft was slightly bent. After fixing it, I still had a bad vibration.
Turns out the driver's side axle AND axle tube on 8.8 housing were also bent.

1 set of new Moser axles and 1 new 8.8 housing later and the car was back to normal with no vibrations.

I figured it is on borrowed time keeping the T56 in it, so I took it out and sold it last week to a guy on Ebay.

Plans are later this year to install a race-spec'd 4R70W with transbrake and finally take the car to the track and lay down some good numbers.

Anyways, here's some pics last weekend as I removed the ole' T56.

LOL. :rotflol:

Not much progress in the last 2 months.
Still waiting on my trans/convertor setup. Haven't purchased anything yet.

I actually picked up a 1995 GT that I have been tinkering on that has taken some of my time.
