I am very pleased to say that I the soon-to-be proud owner of a KB 2.2. I have a couple questions. First, as you can see in my sig I have done lots of IRS upgrades and my car has NO wheel hop at 465 hp. What are guys running TS with a built IRS experiencing? I hope the hop is not too bad. Second, what clutch are people running. I don't expect the stock to hold up long. Should I keep the stock flywheel? The stock one is aluminum correct? Third, how well do the stock bottom ends hold up with a TS compared to an Eaton?

Sorry so many questions, just excited!

Thanks,
Jamie

man you should be fine w/ the 2.2. as far as clutches go buy a spec stage 3+ youll love it. it holds tons of power and is a full face. save youself some headaches and get the flywheel w/ it. pricey but imo very worth it. you should be perfectly fine w/ wheel hop. i would say the only you would get would be at the track trying to launch on sticky drag radials. the bottom end will last a long time if you get a good tune. the tune means a lot. and the boost level the 2.2 can handle is not "over the top" for the bottom end if your tuner knows what he is doing. you will need fuel upgrades though. kenne bell boost-a-pump is a must along w/ injectors and prolly a fpdm wiring upgrade.

Tune is a big key. I am running a 2.2 at 19#s on 93 octane making 643hp tuned by lund. who i highly reccomend. As for as wheel hop i dont think you will experince to much but i wouldnt go to the track and try to launch it on et streets without upgraded halfshafts, which would mean dss level 5. I am also running 60# injectors with a kenne bell boost a pump with wire updrade. oh yeah and make sure when you do the tranny you convert the input shaft to a 26 spline. get rid of the factory 10 spline

good posts from you and no1sirbutler, I was going to mention upgrading to a 26 spline as well. I'm also going to go with the spec 3+ as when my stocker is getting close (good streetability & holding power).

You're using a BAP at that power though? What do you have it set to, 50?? lol

Another alternative is just buying new factory half shafts instead of dealing with the hassle of the level 5's. You can buy and break a bunch of them before the level 5's even become the better bargain

haha no bo its set at 40 and getting plenty of fuel. i do plan on doing a complete fuel system next year along with a wicked motor and alot of spray. The only problem with just buying a bunch of stock halfshafts is that they arent usually the only thing you mess up when they break. but yeah i know the level 5s are a crap ton of money. sucks but other then solid seeems to be the only option to make the irs live with slicks and launching

Thanks for all of the replies! I have a BAP and SCT2400 MAF. still need to buy some 60's and I am going to upgrade to a 26 spline when i do the clutch.

Well I know now thinking about it that, there is one that was near me but, he sold it. Where it went, I'm not sure. Have to ask him the next time I see him out.. He's got a black GT 500 now..

The vert is the same color as mine, not black and has cobra r 2000 rims. Had a brain fart.. (Shut up Ryan):moon:

I live right by the Pioneer Drive-In on Rt.8. The GT500 that I know lives on Holeoak Rd. off of Rt.308, not far from Rt.38. Might be the same one

I am thinking of installing my KB, injectors, MAF and BAP myself. I do not have much experience working on engines, but I am a smart guy with a basic understanding of how our engine works. what do you guys think? Also if I do the installation myself will it be safe to drive to a tuner as long as I don't boost?

wickedsnake03
02-13-2009, 12:30 AM
the install is fairly simple if you follow the step by step instructions and have all the tolls needed. make sure when you do the boost a pump you do the wire mod. its worth it. I aint so sure if you will be able to drive the car to the tuner for the simple fact you are going to have alot more injector though. might be best to just find a buddy to give you a tow.

Let me know if you need help I can lend a hand. I have not done the swap on my car yet but I plan to , if I go this route, and have done allot of reading on it.

I would not drive the car to the tuner with all the mods done on the factory tune. You are going to foul the plugs in no time with the 60lbs injectors. You should have two options. The tuner may be able to e-mail you a better tune to get you to the shop (staying off the boost) or maybe you could leave the factory injectors and maf installed (staying off the boost) and swap them out at the shop.

Or have it flatbedded out. Heck you can rent a trailor if you have a truck.

Thanks a million for the offer. I just may take you up on that. Where did you get research material on the swap? Just off the net? I have AAA Gold, so i will just have it flatbedded

I found a video of the swap proccess on the net. I will look for it when I get home. It wasnt bad at all. The only warning I read was to heat up the bolts that hold the intercooler to the blower so you dont risk snaping one off.

If you write kenne bell an email they will send you the instructions to do the swap.

also forgot to add not sure how much boost you plan on running but i would get a nice set of idlers to eliminate belt slip. i have the ones from lfp and they are really nice. I am also running a reichard racing upper pulley. great piece and never had any belt slip at all running 19#s

724COBRA

Apparently it has a 2.8 pulley on it. How much boost will that make with the stock lower? I want to make 17lbs

wickedsnake03
02-19-2009, 02:49 PM
3.0 makes 17#s with stalk lower. 2.75 makes 19# with stock lower. so you will be right around where you want to be. make sure you buy an idler set. if not at that kinda boost you will have belt slip. its also going to live on 93 octane for sure and need a really good tune in it

Thanks man! I have a billetflow 2.93 already. I just talked to them and they have a KB hub. That should be real close to 17lbs right? Ever hear of anyone running a BF on a KB?

Yeah that will be really close. cant say i really seen alot of people running the BF pulley on kenne bells, but i seen alot of eaton guys running them and they seem like a nice piece. the reichard racing pullys are nice cause they have a nonslip design and real strong bearings. but like i said eaton guys really seem to like BF stuff

I run BF pullies on my 2.2. Love it. Quick switch when I wanna go from 16#s to 19#'s. Plus they look great. Only issue I ran into was, there are 3 hub sizes for the 2.2, that I wasn't aware of when I got it. So I had to call back and get the correct size.
