Aren't there any gun shows coming up? This is the time of the year for them. I picked a brand new one up for $90 a few years ago in Monroeville.

A Ruger 10/22 is so cheap to begin with why buy a used one? I got mine on sale at Dick's Sporting Goods for under $180 out the door. Of course, then I spent over $300 for the upgraded stock kit to turn it into this:

What's the cheapest hand gun I could get just for home protection? Would be nice to fire a few rounds quickley but nothing crazy. I'm buying something soon just dont want to spend alot..

I don't have 1st hand experience but I've heard the new ones are really cheaply made. Bad finish on the receiver, plastic parts that were once metal etc. and the price is now over $200 even for the basic carbine. I plan on refinishing the receiver and replacing the stock, barrel and internals anyway so if I can pick up a used one for around $100 it would be a lot better.

Fun as hell to shoot though, did a few sidejobs for people to get the money. It didn't seem too bad until you add tax and scope and shit then it gets expensive. Traded in 2 junk old shotguns which knocked some off the price though. Thing is heavy but shoots great. I am not the best shot but at 50 yards I can get some junk ass federal bulk ammo to shoot a big hole through the target. Groups great especially for my skill level.

High points are another hold like 9 rounds of 9mm and go from 180-220 a piece.

 for sure! The quality of the kit is top notch. I mainly purchased it becaust the barrel is already threaded 1/2"-28 thread, so I can just remove the fake suppressor that comes with the kit and screw on my real one.

Look at a Taurus PT145. A buddy of mine who is a member on here picked one up and I can say it shoots real nice, plus it's a .45 which is perfect for home defense. Brand new I think it was $405 out the door at Ace Sporting Goods in Washington, PA.

10/22's are one of the most fun/economical guns on the face of the planet!! lol as far as home protection goes you dont wanna be cheap on this...go for a sig sauer, glock, smith and wesson (revolver), springfield or even kimber if you like the 1911 style pistol....go for a .357 sig, .40 S&W, or .45 ACP :)
