Custom roller cam :D We will not discuss the specs on the cam, but it is .100 more lift than anything I have ever run, and has real turbo friendly events. Should sound like a tractor at idle ;)

Not getting it together Billy? It sounded like you where making progress?

wow that looks great so you be running around 500 lift then huh

Bad math, but nice try ;) lift of FMS A237 cam plus .100+ ish = a lot more than .500 :D Lets just say the new package gives me an additional .150 clearance off the guide / seal, and I need it all.

Lookin good, where are the rest of the valves?:dunno:;)

I could only afford half a 5.0 / 4.6 SOHC set, or 1/4 of a 4.6 DOHC set :D What the hell do you do with all of those valves and cams anyway ;) Replacement for the valve shortage .............

In my world, that would take me down to something like a Harley:rolleyes: The unfortunate thing about 4 cylinders is that things DO NOT cost half as much. Could of bought the same set-up for a 5.0 for the same money (I actually buy my springs in sets of 16 typically).

What is a set ;) Only one cam here :D This is a custom grind from Bo-Port based on my new set-up and the cams of his I tried last year.

i'm thinking of skipping the ranger cam and going right with a boport.

i'm thinking of skipping the ranger cam and going right with a boport.

Depending on what you do with the rest of the combo, you may / may not be ahead power wise.

I tested 4 cams with the T3. The Ranger roller was as effective as all of them with a stock turbine. (A237, Bo-Port 1.5, Ranger Roller, Stock 88 TC Cam). Bo's 1.5 cam was much stronger under the curve than them all, but did not pick up any MPH at the track. The Ranger roller is a hoot on the street, Bo's 1.5 cam is fun up another 1000 rpm ;) When I ran the A237, I hated the low vacuum and lousy power brakes because of it. Bo told me his 1.9 was about the same for vacuum FWIW. If I owned the RR and was sticking with a T3, that's what I would run (I actually pulled the 1.5 cam and went back to the RR and didnt gain / loose anything).

I would love to test his 1.5 with the new Stage III turbine, but traded that cam back to him. This cam is similar in events to the 1.5 but a ton more lift. We should see in a few weeks how it all works out ;)

Bo is super to deal with, and has always treated me well. You wont go wrong with his stuff no matter what you decide.

ok thanks bob you always have the right info for me , i have the ranger cam and will give it a try and go from there .the svo i still in storage, but i hope to get it home soon

Martin0660

i have the ranger cam and will give it a try and go from there .

If we could poke Frank along, we could have another meaningfull data point.
We swapped his early TC cam (small) for my old Engle 55 cam and he picked up a good bit (both ET and MPH). I believe we could see even more gain with a Ranger Roller in his car but need to get him to get the parts rounded up, and let me do it ;) Back in the day, Joe Morgan started all this RR stuff when he went from the Engle 55 to a RR and picked up almost 4 mph.

What you have to consider about the Ranger cam is where it is "happy" matches with the T3 turbo so perfectly, I just dont think you could design a better match. Bo says his 1.1 will out perform it, but I have not tested it myself. The RR is more or less done by 5800 RPM (retarded a little) but so are these heads, the turbine, and so many other things. It just makes power where those parts are still working.

you better talk him out of ANOTHER car he's looking at....I already tried.

yeahloh95
03-02-2009, 11:19 PM
bob i would be happy with 5800 mines done at 5000 and thats just not enough rpm for me.

somethingclever
03-02-2009, 11:34 PM
Troy...you launch it at 750rpm...so 5000 max still gives 4250 useful....that should be enough, no? :)

yeahloh95
03-03-2009, 12:08 AM
oh you are bringing back prp memories and my "low" launch rpm . next time it will be popin off the limiter, lol

Martin0660
03-03-2009, 12:27 PM
you launch it at 750rpm

Nah John, these things idle at 950, so that's where the narrow RPM range comes from ;)

Got the head off the car, torn down, valves lapped in, Valve lash shimmed / set, and ready to go back on the car. Funny thing here, I took a perfectly good non interference motor and made it into an interference motor (break timing belt, bend valves)

Troy - Pictures where intentionally blurry to prevent that ;) Besides, you should know, you cant measure valve lift on these off the engine with HLA's :sticktonge: If the cam works, I will let you know some of the specs :D
