Happens he is my great uncle (grandmothers older brother). Lil late in getting the medal since there were no medical records for his injuries. Was shot down over Germany behind enemy lines. Got chute caught up in a tree, broke pelvis and had to flee locals trying to kill him. So for safety he made his way to German troops. Where he was then marched in dead of winter in whatever clothes he had on at time of bailing from plane. Slept in snow and managed to survive this death march.

That's awesome, dude. Tell him when you see him again that some 37-year-old idiot (ME) says, "THANK YOU!!!"

Why did it take so damn long to get the medal? The article was poorly written and didn't even try to explain why. :slaphappy:

Tell, him congradulations! That's a huge honor, I just don't understand why it took this long? May God Bless his soul and all our other troops fighting around the globe!

Tell your great uncle congrats! Its deff cool to have someone related to you to get awards while they were in the service. Even if you know they had to deal with the pain of lost friends and pain from a enemy. My grandfather was in the Darby Rangers and the 1st special forces durring world war 2 and im proud that he served his country and recieved a purple heart and 2 oak clusters. I love my pap :)

My mistake it's his son Lt. Col. Rohm in Iraq not his grandson. My great uncle was radio operator/gunner on a B17. Was watching some video that my dad took and it was very cool to see so many members of the 171st on hand to see this. I could tell he was little overwhelmed when everyone stood to give him applause.
