I know black cars are a nightmare. Wanted some opinioons. Its that time of the year to clean the paint and wax it. I just saw that Turtle Wax has a kit called the Black Box for black cars. Any good?
What steps and products would you guys use?
Thanks

I tried that Turtle Wax stuff on my black Cutlass years ago. It worked horrible. All it did was smear black-tinted wax all over. I had to buff the car with cleaner wax to get it off.
If you want over-the-counter stuff, Meguier's is the way to go. They have a swirl remover/polish that works pretty well. However, it will only fill in the swirls and scratches...not remove them. After a few washings, the marks will be back. I believe it is in their prfessional line. I used to use the professional cleaner wax first, then the polish/swirl remover, and then the gold class wax.
If you want good stuff, www.griotsgarage.com (http://www.griotsgarage.com). Those are the only products that touch my car now. I use the paint clay, then the fine hand polish, and finally the best of show wax. Eventually I will buy the DA orbital and use their machine polish instead of the hand polish. One thing about the Griot's polish...they actually remove the scratches and swirls! The speed shine is awesome too, as well as the undercarriage spray. They are more expensive, but I think they are worth it. Especially with a black car.
Just my two pennies.

I think that Black Box stuff just came out so not sure if its the same thing you used before. Its an entire kit just for black cars.

I was reading some reviews and some people said it does a great job but it really doesnt eliminate the scratches and swirls, just hides them temporarily.
Once i get them out for good im sure it would be a good thing to use.

I have heard good things about Poorboys Black Hole show glaze on black cars. Top that with a good quality wax like P21S or even a store bought wax like NXT 2 and I think it will come out nice. I'm planning on trying it out soon myself.

I can't speak for the current offerings that are available, but back in the day, I used Imperial Hand Glaze by 3M. Applied it with a damp 4"x6" sponge, using a back and forth motion. Did one body panel at a time, used a terry cloth towel to remove, then buffed with a cloth baby diaper. I then applied a coat of 100% carnauba wax for protection. It was a lot of work, but the shine and depth it gave to black was unreal.
