I was wondering what take off turbos will work on the 2.3T? I know the Cummins Holset hy35 is one, but is it a direct bolt on? And is there other Holsets that are good? Also does the powerstroke turbo work and what year trucks to get these turbos off of? Thanks for any help:awsome:

Assuming you want to keep the stock manifold, or use the ford T-3 pattern.....
You have the IHI's from 87/88 TC's - Fun little street turbos' but really limited on total power.
The T-3's off 83-86 TC's, 85 (?)-89 Merkur's, 84-86 SVO's are obviously direct bolt on's. From the T-3 stuff, you can jump into hybrids of any number of shapes and sizes.
The later cold air Buick stuff can be a great donor if combined with a Ford T3 turbine. Makes a nice little upgraded hybrid, or their upgrades are like a 57 trim, that works okay on the 2.3.
The Holsets are out there. The HY35 seems to be the most street usable, but the updated HE351 seems nice too (forward facing outlet). The HX35 can be used, but its a divided housing so it spools slow unless you mill out the divider, or build a paired manifold and flow a ton of air. Everything bigger is just too large for a mild 2.3 (or even a wild one ;) IMO )
MAP will need to give you details on his powerstroke deal. Its a very limited year range (like 1 or two years) for the Garrett type stuff, or else is a different flange and set-up. Mikes is neat, spools FAST, but it hasnt made passes yet.
I think the Holsets are changing how everyone looks at these turbos. Me, I will probably stay in the T-3 based stuff as I just hate to change the downpipe, oil lines, IC piping, and all of that I already have, and they are fun as heck on the street. Besides, I am trying to prove a point with the T3 stuff.

The Garrett i have on the pinto is off a 90/91 ford Turbo Diesel But it's a V6/V8 Cummings not a ford powerstrokeV8. It's a TO4B direct bolt on to a E-6 and the discharge would need a little mod for a stock application also it's Not water-cooled..
We'll give it a try this year with the .48 Hot side at first, i have a .63 & .82..:biglaugh:
The powerstroke turbo from the newer V8s are a complete animal and would take a lot of mod to make work & i think the Hot side is a 1.10..

Ok, my Dad got a hy35 but it has play in the shaft, side to side and in and out. Is there a rebuild kit and how much?

You can also hit a local Diesel shop for a rebuild kit, and see what your getting. :jump:

35 Lb. injectors will get you to 300Hp+ safely. On the header just remember Joe Morgan went 10.30 with a ported E-6 manifold! :D

i still might just bolt it on to my ported e6 i had it ceremic coated i will see how much room it leaves me for my down pipe all i would need is the oil feed adapter  as they use the same return line.

I think Curtis (TurboToy) had a problem with the Stinger header & Holset, No valve cover clearance & #1 spark plug was impossible to get out!

oh ok well i hope to try mine out soon i'll try it on the stock e6 first then on the stinger i like the fact that i can run an external gate with the stinger that way i can start with low boost ,around 10 or so:thmbsup:

If I'm not mistaken Curtis said he had to add a 1" spacer under the turbo and one on the head to space the header out 1" to clear the Valve cover..
I'll try to get Curtis on here.

NO!!!!!! Next thing you know the secret of the flux capacitor will be out, and two Pinto's in the same place has to be against some rule. :biglaugh:
I'm pretty sure he said it needed a 1" spacer, and there was no way to get to plugs without pulling the turbo. Well Curtis, where ya at?????
