View Full Version : Ticking and squeaking

My 95 vert has developed a strange noise that resonates through the driver's side exhaust. I noticed it after I put on the GT40P heads, some Mac headers, some crane cams roller pedestal rockers and made my own plug wires from an Accel kit.
At first I thought it was just a misaligned collector at the header/h-pipe connection but now I replaced the h-pipe and still the same stuff happens.
It sounds weird. Like a tick + squeak.
The squeak seems to "almost" go away once the car is warm but the tick is still there. The squeak has me puzzled. It is not a solid squeal it is like "squeak, squeak, squeak... etc."
WTF could it be? :worried:

does it sound like a pipe is maybe hitting off something while driving? or is it sound like a small exhaust leak??

It does not sound like a pipe hitting off of something. It is really noticable first thing in the morning when the car is cold (and when the air is cold).
It happens less in the very hot summer (remembering from last summer).
I suppose that it could be an exhaust leak.
I snugged up the header on that side but all of the bolts were tight.
Is there any sure fire way to find an exhaust leak?
Is there any way that the valvetrain could cause some squeaking noise? I mean, all of the parts are bathed in oil but it sounds like it is coming from around the valve cover. I guess the header could be the culprit.

with my h-pipe the passenger side bolts on the header are extremely hard to get to, mine has a similar tick but its an exhaust leak due to me not being able to get that bolt in correctly.

exact same problem I had, with my Mac Prochamber H.

stick or automatic? possible throwout bearing? push the clutch down and see if it goes away

I am sure that they are but there is also a squeak. The squeak is the goofy part.

Stick. Pressing the clutch makes no difference.
I got a mechanic's stethoscope and will start to poke around.
I will probably record a video/sound clip and put it up for people to hear. It is a very big PITA.

yes get a sound clip that might be easier to tell.. i was also thinking TO bearing for the squeak but since you said pushing the clutch in make no differnce idk.
