I have spent 2 weeks trying to figure this out. Any knowledge/advice is greatly appreciated.

Ill try to explain in detail.

Car is a 94 cobra.
Built motor
347 stroker
stock block .040
probe pistons
scorpion rockers
e-cam
70mm throttle body
cai
bbk headers
straight 3 inch exhaust

-over the past two weeks the car began to miss around 2 grand
-it would happen once or twice a drive so i changed the plugs and wires
-next time the car was out problem got much worse
-in gear or neutral the car seems to be missing throughout all rpm's
-car was parked immediately and since i have changed
plugs
wires
tps "yes its set where it should be"
coil
distributor cap
fuel filter

timing is where it should be
idle is almost normal but jumps around a slight bit
i have basically checked my entire wiring harness
cleaned maf
found a slight leak in my upper intake gasket but fixed that
do not seem to be any loose grounds

so start to finish. if i got in the car right now. it would roll over just fine. idle would stay around a grand and suddenly decide to jump to around 1900 and back down about 2 seconds later. if i ease on the gas from idle everything is normal till around 2500 rpm's. if the gas is held at 2500 the car will just sit there and misfire and the rpm's will sit and twitch. same thing at around 2900, 3500, 4000. under the hood, everything sounds/appears to be fine. at the above given rpm's it seems i can hear a slight pinging coming from the pipes.

i scanned the codes

two dont seem important
egr signal too low
evap emissions out of range
and the third code is closed throttle position out of range

any possibilities guys/gals?
hopefully nothing internal.
pip sensor in distributor possibly?
injector?

cant work on the car until sunday, and next step will be to check fuel pressure, and compression.

ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED

change TFI module and if that dont work maybe you need a new distributor. also your ECU could have gone bad but i highly doubt it

vac. leak? I had one of the vac. lines under the intake fall off. I had similar symptoms.

Its the pick up in the distributor. been there, done that. swap the dis and you will know right away.

+2 ... i'd suggest this first as well...

right before I sold my '94 Trans Am, it was having a similar issue. You could smash the pedal to the floor in P and it would get to about 3000 rpms and then sound liek it was hitting off a rev limiter... the distributor was so bad that the engine couldnt even make any more revs

If its not distributor, check fuel system (filter, injectors, etc)...

distributor it is. i figured. i tried everything else but fuel problems. filter was just changed. if distributor does not do the trick. im gunna move on to new injectors. still lookin for a distributor for a 5.0 if anyone has one laying around w/ low miles on it. $$$
