There was a guy that i met this past weekend with a pony down turbo set up... and i think im in love with the idea of turbo'n the lx. The only thing im curious about.. he said, he was maken over 500 horses and close to 600 foot pounds! All i know from what i saw was he had the new BBK intake and heads and single turbo...could this be trueee ?? It was pretty bad a$$ but, my 5.0 is a mean sounding puppy but has really no go! Another question is... leaven my AOD tranny in this car with a turbo going to blow up to chicken bits or can i upgrade an automatic to run this car to its full potential with an automatic?

You can upgrade it or get one already done that will handle 500 easy. It just isn't the cheapest route. I would go turbo nothing like free horsepower.

i'd be careful though, once you start gettin into the 500+ rwhp range those 302 blocks are on borrowed time. they will split!

My old cartech kit instructions claim that anything over 10 psi of boost you should o ring the heads, and use arp head bolts or studs.
The auto tranny won't last long at all with all the torque from the turbo. I may be selling my turbo kit from my notch, pm me if you're interested.

I love turbos... but think about it before you go ahead and do it...
If you're going to be pushing the limits of your engine, you're going to need to eventually beef it up... you'll wanna beef up the tranny... also you'll need a fuel system that can take care of the need for WAY more fuel... Also, i don't know how much a fox drivetrain can take, but i'd think you'd be looking at blowing out a stock rear...
its an awesome route to go, but its expensive... its a huge project if its done right

Pressure till she POPS!! Stock blocks are cheap and they usually split down the middle if they "hook" hard at the track. Just make sure the tune is correct and have fun with it.

Couple of things. The fuel part is no fib, mine is on the edge with the stock tank, lines, and 255 intank and high pressure inline pumps.
The stock rear can handle alot. the 8.8's are the only above average part of the drivetrain from the factory. Just slapping a turbo on a stock motor and then getting the supporting mods really has turned into a bolt on and go deal. Thats with minimal boost though. Doing it right would be a huge project after bullet proofing everything.

Oh ok, i didnt' know they came with an 8.8..... that should be a reasonably stout rear then... 8.8 is equivalent to a GM 12-bolt, and the Moser 12bolt in my car was supposed to be more than enough to take the power.... I'm sure the stock isn't as strong as a Moser, but either way, its still going to hold 500hp for sure

I'll have my Turbo 90 GT at Carlisle if you want to take a look at it. I put a B&G single turbo kit on it with a little Masterpower T-70 turbo. It's a blast to drive. BTW, Pony Down''s kits are the old designs from B&G. Brian at B&G used to make the kits for Pony Down and sold his old fixtures to them.

cool man! ya this is something ive kicked around .... i thought about a stroker kit... then super charger and now turbo. it something that ive been kinda goofy about .. thinking its a jap car thing. but there have been a lot of domestic cars that have been turbo cars, that people forget about. but its something cool and different to me now. bc not everyone thinks turbo v8 stang.

Yea, don't think that its an import thing.... turbos have been used in domestic racing for an eternity... and don't forget, they've been used on diesel engines for a very very long time.... The first production car to use a turbo was two GM cars back in the early 60's ....
Turbos were originally developed to be used on the V12 engines in airplanes during world war I....
I think its only occassionally looked at as a jap thing because of the fast and the furious movies and the fact that the jap companies have smartly continued to put turbos on their small engines to give them some uumph

My next car will DEF. be a turbo car. :jump:

don't think slapping a turbo on your car is easy. a lot of people really have no clue about basic EFI tuning strategy, let alone what it takes to support any decent amount of horse power. Furthermore, don't buy into all the hype that just because you put a turbo on your car that your block is going to split in half, your rears going to break, and your tranny is going to come apart or you'll need a fuel system, because that isn't always the case. You can support 500hp with very minimal changes to your setup... the life expectancy of any setup really all comes down to how much track time you plan on attending... street cars with a few track days a year will see plenty of life without building a monster motor.
