That was cool. I always thought it would be cool to put a supercoupe 3.8 in a 94 up v6 mustang.

Ha, I know those kids from over at 3.8mustang.com. I followed the initial build, and now the second one. My brothers 3.8 is making right at 340rwhp at 10psi and shutting down at 5100 ish rpms, his car should be good for 6200 or so. He was also pegging his SCT 2800 MAF during that run I believe, he bought a diablosport MAFia to remedy that, he may also be running his 42lb/hr injectors too, so who knows.

Oh and hes in desperate need of an 8.8, it destroyed the 7.5 in like a week. The 3.8s seem to really take to boost well, a guy was running 17psi for quite some time on a twin setup, and ran some high 10s I believe. If you guys got any questions about it, I'd be glad to answer em.:awsome:

Alot of guys take the M90 and intake off it and put it on the 98 and below cars. The 99+ people just usually make due with the procharger or the tma turbo setup. www.tmaturbo.com I think there has been only 1 guy from the 99+ group that have made their own upper intake and bolted on the m112 from the cobra.

Working and going on vacation. Basically being a slacker. He has that WRX now so he just drives that around. I dunno, he still needs to get the 8.8, install it, all kinds of fun stuff. We currently have 2 broken mustangs sitting in the driveway under covers.:uhh:

He hasnt told me of any mullet chasing lately, so it must of been the mustang that attracted them!:biglaugh:

Put his rearend in Tony's car. Then you'll only have 1 broken Mustang. :pinkthumb:

No not really. Steve let someone else do some of the assembly. I hope he learned a lesson. It just looks like one rod and rocker. The weather turned to crap and its been too cold for driveway repair. If the weather breaks he can look at it again.

Tony,

If u don't mind me asking, roughly how much money did you invest in your sixxer to get it over 300 hp?

parts, labor, etc

My car is pretty low on my list of priorities and will be for a couple years but I've been thinking about saving a little money each month for a mustang fund to blow all at once around the time I graduate.

Lol, entirely too much. I'll break it down for you when I get home from work, later tonight. Plus I'll give you some tips on a direction you might want to follow to maximize your gains and minimize the cost.

My current mods... (deep breath)....

RPM MXE Heads/ .535" springs
RPM Blower Ported Lower Intake
RPM Ported Upper Intake w/ bolt posts removed and widened crossover
RPM 207/215 @ 110 LCA camshaft
BBK 70mm throttle body
Harland Sharp 1.73 adjustable roller rockers
SCT X-Calibrator 2 - "custom" tune (though not dyno-tuned)

With the above, plus a full MAC exhaust (shorty headers, catted h pipe, cat back) and a MAC cold air intake, the car make 215 rwhp/ 214 rwtq. Labor for installin gthe heads, intakes, cam, and roller rockers was a little under a grand if I remember correctly. In retrospect, I wish we just would have done it ourselves, but at the time we didn't feel comfortable enough installing the cam, plus I didn't really have the time.

The next major step ended up being the turbo kit. It's a "race" kit from TMA with an upgrade to the GT35/40r turbo, plus some other upgrades. With all the upgrades and such, the kit cost me about 5k. Supporting upgrades for fuel and what not was probably an additional 1k... maybe a little less. (Fuel pump, injectors, bigger MAF, MAFia, etc.) With this setup, minus the MAFia, I made the numbers in my sig @ 10 psi. For the record, this is on a "base" tune that I got from the guy that made the turbo. I utterly destroyed the rear end before I got a chance to actually get it tuned. It was going lean up around 5200 rpms because the SCT 2800ba MAF was pegging so I never took it above that. The car's limiter is now set at 6200 rpm so with the MAFia in place and a dyno tune, I'm looking for 350+ rwhp, still @ 10 psi. Maybe eventually I'll bump it up to 12 psi, which is what most people with the kit have theirs set at but I wanted to be really conservative to start with since, when I started the project, this was my daily (only) driver.

As for recommendations... if I were to do it all over again, I'd have just saved my pennies and gone straight to a power adder instead of all the stuff to the top end. Yes, having a good flowing engine makes more power. Yes, it is more efficient. Yes, hypothetically, it puts less strain on my engine because I don't need to run it so hard to make the same amount of power. But when it comes down to it, the big gains just aren't going to happen unless you go FI. I know with a good set of heads on a V8 you can see gains of 75+ rwhp... that just isn't going to happen with the v6. There's more to it, and maybe I'll add more later, but for now I'm tired of typing. :D

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Also, Steve if you noticed anything I forgot to mention, chime in.

-Tony

Thats pretty sick what all you've done, thx for the info. After spending a couple hours browsing through all that and doing lots of math, I figure I should probably aim for saving $5-6k. This is on top of cash I'll be spending this summer to get some dents fixed from a hydroplaning accident last year, so basically I'll have to start from scratch. Saving $3000 a year is easily in reach if I alter my spending habits.

My car has 50k miles on it now, I bought it with 33k miles 2 years ago. After totalling my first v6 , I really dont speed or beat on my car at all (rarely ever goes above 3,000 rpm) except for when I feel the occasional need to go for a "drive". Taking future milage into consideration, how high a risk is it to put forced induction on a stock 60-70k mile engine?

Also,

Have any exterior/engine pics?

As long as you get a good tune and keep the boost to something reasonable (like I said, most people are going with 12 psi), I see no reason you can't keep your engine together for a good while. I bought my car with 22,000 miles on it. I pretty much always drove it hard... stock, bolt ons, engine work, turbo, all the way through. I haven't put too many miles on it since the turbo has gone on but it's sittin in the driveway right now with about 80,000+ miles on it and no problems thus far. Just make sure you're doing typical maintanence and everything in the meantime and I think it'll be fine.
