I know alot of you guys like to work out and keep in shape and so forth, so i figured i would ask to get some advice. I am about 140-142.. I am looking to get up to around 155-160 but healthy, not sit around and do nothing and eat mcd's all the time. Right now i work out everyday during the week. Mostly run and sit-ups and light stuff to mostly keep my endurance up and build it up.. I eat pretty healthy.. you guys got any tips or advice to help me add up some weight? Right now i can eat anything i want and as much as i want and wont gain a pound.. What could i do to slow my metabolism (sp?) down.

Eat large meals three times a day at the same time everyday, NO SNACKING it makes your body think it has a constant suppy of food so it thinks why keep the stuff you need cause more is coming anyway. You want your body to think it is starving so you body slows down the burn of food. And eat lots of protine in your meals.

no you dont want to eat three big meals....eat five or six smaller meals a day to keep your metabolism working so that you dont put on unhealthy body fat weight. start lifting and increase your calorie intake daily if you want to add weight in a healthy way. just eating more will make you fat. work out and be CONSISTENT about it. also its considered good to take in 1 gram of protein for every pound you weigh daily. so if you weigh 140 try to take in 140 grams of protein daily to increase muscle mass

if you do this, your body will get used to it and start to store food more as body fat instead of using it for energy. you will put on weight this way but it will be more body fat than anything

Trust me Ive been doing this for a while.... Your having a problem gaining weight and you can eat whatever you want. So eating larger PROTIEN filled meals will do the trick.

Eat lots of healthy fats, & proteins.
Lift heavy as you can, & take 2-3 minute breaks between sets so you can be at full strength for your next set.
Do all of the basic core excersises:

Bench Press
Dead Lift
Squat

Add in all of the other complimenting excersises with the big 3.

Supplement with protein powders and maybe even a weight gainer protein powder.

Don't do cardio as you will only burn calories and gain no weight.
You do want to gain muscle, right?
Lift hard & heavy!
Do 3 excersises per bodypart

Day 1- Chest
Day 2- Back
Day 3- Bi's & tri's
Day 4- Shoulders
Day 5- Legs

If you can't make 5 days a week then combine tri's with chest and bi's with back and you'll be at 4 days.

its been proven to be better for you to eat more smaller meals a day rather than three large meals in order to have nutrients constantly in you for muscle recovery after workouts. but watever im not going to argue about it, this isnt bodybuilding.com lol

Yep ... 5-6 small high protein meals a day with a whey protein shake.

Also try drinking muscle milk immediately after your workouts ... this stuff is high in calories but really works!

To bad ya live in johnstown scottie I am starting back to the gym its more fun when you have someone pushing you to lift more.
I like doing curl max outs. start with the curl bar and like 10 pounds do reps til you cant lift anymore. add 5 pounds to each side and do the same keep adding weight and lifting til you cant lift it at all. Arms arent worth a shit the for a lil while afterwards.

Same as gmkillr said. Lift heavy.
Go to muscle failure every set.
I eat around 7-9 times/day and have no problem gaining muscle when I try.
I don't agree with only eating 3 times/day.

GNC brand whey is pretty good stuff, they usually have it on sale all the time so no need to get the gold card. They also carry Muscle Milk and while you're at it you might as well stack it with some Cell-Tech! That stuff is like Roids in a bottle! :sticktonge:

.... we can probably start a new thread for supplement suggestions, everyone has a secret formula. But remember supplements do not make a difference if you're (A) not working out hard enough and (B) not eating right!

Right now at GNC all of their brand stuff is buy one get one 50% off. I highly recommend the GNC AMP Performance Wheybolic 60 Protein (60 grams of protein per serving). Mixes really good and tastes good (Chocolate). Does not make me feel bloated and does not give me the shits.

this is my suggestion to u.

lift like gm killer said.
how ever do only 4-6 reps and on ur 4 or 6 rep it needs to be all u can to do it but u need to complete the rep. stick to the basic exercises dont bother so much with the smaller more specific movements.

as for diet
in the morning eggs, eggs and more eggs at least 5-6 more if u can eat them. cant push that enough. also have a simple carb like a banana this helps to throw the body back into a annabolic state, then u need to take in ur complex carbs to keep u going through the am so have a cup of oatmeal. this is very filling so it maybe rough taking it all in right away but u need all of it.

next meal chicken brest 7-8 oz of it. and for ur carb intake a cup and half or brown rice.

for me the gym comes next after my first 2 meals so as soon as im 3/4 way through my work out ill eat a simple carb again (usually a banana for me) then as soon as im done with my work out im hammering a whey protein shake.

next meal have 7-10 oz of orange roughy fish baked or grilled and a baked sweet potato i eat mine plan but with u being a hard gainner u can hammer the brown sugar and cinnamon and butter if u would like.

next meal more chicken and more brown rice

just before bed have a casein protein shake this is a slower digesting protein and will feed u for roughly for 6 hours while u sleep and help to keep u anabolic through the night also a couple spoon fulls of peanut butter the fats in the peanut butter are good for u and very calorie dense and are good source of protein

also if u can take them down have 2 or 3 peanut butter and whole wheat bread sandwiches through out the day for snacks. if u can eat the natural peanut butter its a little bit better for u. i cant eat it though i eat the reduced fat crunch jif i like it.

with a diet very simalar as stated in 3 months i went from 228lbs and 17% body fat to 243lbs and 12.8% bodyfat. im not a hard gainer so i had to watch what i ate. my carb intake was a touch lower than above cause i knew i could pack the weight on just wanted it to be good weight, i also do cardio 3-4 days a week as well which i do not suggest for u, good luck

Way to much work involved here .... just eat peanut butter and banana sandwiches on whole wheat bread 5 times a day, drink 6 16oz Iron City beers with a box of Shop-n-Save bakery chocolate chip cookies for dinner! You'll be like 300lbs in 5 months!

No seriously very good advice here! But try to only eat the egg whites with your eggs and more eggs :sticktonge:

Don't let people overcomplicate this for you.
Building muscle is nothing more than tearing down muscle so it builds back stronger and repeating that cycle.
Proper nutrion comes into both the tearing down (by weight lifting), and building it back.

Stick with healthy foods relatively low in fat and sugar. fastfox91 has some good recommendations.
Eat some form of protein (like a shake) within 30 minutes after your workout.

Brand of protein powder doesn't mean squat. Except for the Wal Mart crap. It's terrible.
Optimum Nutrition and GNC are together now, so the GNC brand is made by ON.
I pick my protein based on whatever is on sale at the time on GNC's clearance rack.
My personal favorite based only on flavor is Nitro Core cookie's n cream.

Oh and get plenty of rest.
You really only need to work one muscle group a week.

Well i have been working out since i started this thread and have taken all your guys help and it is working. I went home the last week and my family couldnt believe i actually gained weight and some muscle. lol hahah... but i got into a dilemma, the gym i was going to shut down last week and i have been doing stuff that i could at my house while i been searching for a replacement gym and the only one i found i cant get to soon enough and do my work out so got to figure something out that will work with my house and my house is very small and right now im limited to what i can do( push-ups, sit-ups, crunches, use of dumbells, and using a curl bar... but really hurting with no leg machine and no bench press) So i need some tips or pointed in the right direction for a good home workout or even a good DURABLE and SAFE weight bench that could maybe fold up and not take up my whole living room.. Any suggestions?

honestly im not sure where your located but if your anywhere near robinson area you need to say good bye to gnc and their ridiculous prices, anyone else who goes to gnc please listen to what i am about to say and save money like crazy. a turn off cambells run road is a company called supplement supply, they carry everything gnc does plus more, their prices are unbelievable. i picked up a black powder complete box for 18.95 this usually goes for 59.99 or 49.99 cant remember off the top of my head. as for that gold standard whey they sell at gnc for 39,99 i believe for the 2lb jug, its 22 bux at this place. if they dont have it in the store they can get it an have it their next day, but if you cant find the supplement, vitamin, even t-shirt your looking for in this store you shouldnt even be trying to build muscle. if anyone wants a little mroe detail to where its at please pm me ill be glad to help.
