My 94 Cobra failed inspection due to the 3rd brake light being burned out. The LED in the spoiler setup is unique to the 94/95 Cobras and the part is obsolete. When it was available, it was $264. Does anyone know of a shop that would let this slide and pass my car? If so, send me a PM or an email at rjzink2@gmail.com. Thanks.

that is without a doubt the dumbest reason for a fail I have ever heard of.

Why not just fix it?

Why not just fix it?

I took the spoiler off and looked it over. There is no easy way to separate the red lens from the plastic backing to get into the LED assembly since they are glued together. I really don't think it is possible to get into the light without a risk of cracking the lens. If the lens cracks, then I am forced to replace the assembly and they are rare and expensive. I'd rather find a shop that would pass it.

Thanks for the replies. I did end up getting it to pass inspection at a local shop. The shop owner couldn't bring himself to fail the car due to an obsolete, overpriced LED brake light.

You probably had some new guy with a "just out of school" license that went strictly by the book. When I worked in the Honda dealership, we had a guy the exact same way. The trooper had to "observe" me doing one on his visit. Accords always had this issue with the LED wings. I let it go and he asked why. When I explained it to him about a non serviceable part, he simply said OK. It was decoration and the car still had the other third brake light functioning.
