Hey all, i just signed up because i started looking at terminators for when its time to buy my next ride. im going to school at PITT right now and driving a chevy z71 pickup. its a great truck and ill keep it forever, it actually made me a GM fan. its got 170k and ticking on the ODO and runs better every day...

i was looking at GTOs for when it comes time for a car, but the ammount of power you can make (for relatively little money) in a cobra is just incredible. and being that im 23 years old and have virtually no responsibilities, i figured if im ever going to have a car that does nothing but go fast as hell and look mean, now is the time to do it. i can get a GTO when im older or something.

edit: i know im new and this is probably annoying. but does anyone feel like giving me a ride in a terminator (or stang of that body style) one this weather clears up?

wow, im surprised to get so many responses to a "welcome" thread, in most boards ive been on they dont get much response. thanks all.

to all that welcomed rides, whether its cobra/mach1/GT. id be happy to get a ride in any of them. just to see if i fit well enough (or to see if they go fast enough that squeezing my big a$$ in is worth the effort).

a while back i was really thinking about getting a mach1 because the interiors look so sweet. still an option.

ill keep checking for cruise nights/meets. if you guys see a loud red 95 chevy truck there, its me.

i wont hold it against you... theres not much rivalry anymore, our football team really just sucks anymore. Bball is doing ok, but i dont watch it anyway.

i love the GTO because it is reasonably fast, does OK with mods, and has a GREAT interior that i fit in perfectly. its not as fast as a terminator, doesnt do as well with mods as a terminator but i still ahve to see if i can even fit in a stang of those years .

are there "year codes" for them . like the old fox bodies had a name/generation, what are the 00-04 called?

ill take a ride in ANYTHING really. cobra or not, i really just have to see if i fit. i may go try and get in some at some dealerships in the area, but we'll see how that goes. dealers around here dont strike me as too friendly to 18-27 year olds.

Welcome man!!

on a quick side note - indeed, the cobras are really awesome how you can easily mod them to be quick cars, but i think you'd be pleasantly surprised on how easily/cheap you can make a N/A LSx motor just as quick

good luck on ur quest - either way, you won't be dissapointed

no doubt the LS can make good power. but the GTO is a 37xx lb car... and can only fit 285s out back. so no matter how powerfull i made it, it would still have many shortcomings...

a vette may be a different story.

the weight issue of fitting isnt my concern really , its the 6'8 height that is my cause of concern.

does anyone here own a new mustang and one of the 00-04? i think the shape of the bottom of the dash gives a little more space in the older ones. but my knees were pushing on the dash of the new ones really bad.

do the terminators have "tilt" seats ? like where i could angle my seat so my knees are higher or lower ? (know what i mean?) it looks like they may be non power seats tho... im still a total newb to most things mustang.

I know the power seat in my Mach ( and 99 GT) allowed for you to tilt the seat. I have an 04 and my wife has an 06 , but I honestly never really noticed which one had more leg room.

axles of evil
01-28-2007, 11:32 PM
it wasnt that the length of the legroom was the problem. it was just the design of the dash came down a little too low on the 06 for my legs. ill have to mess with the tilt and stuff and find a good fit. even on the gto which i fit in great took a little time to find the perfect position.

The driver's seat inn a Cobra is 6-Way power with lumbar in the top and bottom parts of the seat.

yeah 4 inches is a lot... especially when i was just barely too tall to fit in the stuff i sat in. head room shouldnt be a problem, i actually look shorter than some of my friends (who are my size or a little smaller) when we are all sitting down.

do you have them around or would you have to order from Kenny Brown? i saw on their site today that someone is like stealing their designs or something so they werent making or selling stuff for a while.

and what is the cubic inches of the 4.6 liter? 289 ? i know all the GM measurements, but never had to go smaller than 5.0 (302 ford 305 chevy)

I'll give you a ride in mine. Come over, jump in and we'll drive to a dealership that has a terminator for sale and by the time we get there you'll walk in and buy one on the spot.

There is no comparison between the 03-04 cobra and any GTO unless you don't like gobs of power easily attainable.

I have a 2.76 pulley and a ported eaton (with supporting mods of course). Here's what that got me:

:astonished: :highfive:  thats a lot of power with very little work... to get that out of the gto id have to go with a twin turbo setup for about 6500 bucks. then install and tune it all. then the motor would fall apart eventually bc its not forged. and id need hardened pushrods, valve springs. lower compression (if i want it to last) etc etc....

id be glad to go for a ride sometime. riding to a dealer with a terminator around here may be a long drive , i havent seen hardly any. but i just started looking.

haha, i'm in no way trying to start a war here, but u better search a little more before you become another ill-informed mustang owner... I 100% respect the cobra and the power it puts out ( i mean, i absolutely love the sweet sound of the blower), but don't fall into a trap... if you would go with the newer LS2 goat, a properly tuned head/cam setup (along with full boltons obviously - you'd be stupid to not do that) will net you 500 for sure... granted, i dont think you can skimp on cam size, you gotta get a manly cam, but isn't that the best part?!?!? 500 or so would probably be ur limit tho, unless u go with a rediculously large cam, or a rediculously expensive set of heads

axles of evil
02-01-2007, 06:23 PM
i know the LS motor is great, and with a really good head/cam package i could see 500. but it would be a pain in the ass to drive around town. the cam would be so agressive that it wouldnt be fun anymore.

i dont know what teh cobra weighs in at . but the GTO is 3800 lbs. and can only fit a 285 back tire (if you have all suspension mods and rolled fenders).

its also not that the GTO is underpowered and cant gain power. there are turbo kits coming out that produce 550 rwhp. but its the bottom end that worries me. none of it is forged ,and the general consensus is anything over 500 at the wheels and youre running on borrowed time.

i may get a GTO (or commodore/g8) later in life when i need/want a little more refinement. but for now the cobra is the way to go.

with the cobra i can spend way less and see all the power. and almost none of the downsides the GTO would have had (like weak bottom end, super aggressive cams, breakable rear end... etc) and i know these are problems with many cars, but i also like the way the cobra looks and sounds . its a much "younger" car IMO.

ill talk my dad into getting the GTO :)

The guy that lives down the street has a whipple, he's making high 600's with stock cast iron exhuast manifolds. His only problem was traction, same thing with my truck can hardly cut 1.80 60 foot's. My truck has walked away from m3's and vettes or any other ls car above 30 miles per hour. His cobra could embarrass my truck once it hooked.

See if you can walk my ls... :D :D - haha, how ya doin buddy??

axis, i think you'll be happy no matter what choice you make, which it looks like you've already made ur choice.... kb cobra will be badass, no doubt about it... but if you KB, aren't you sorta throwing out that whole "cheap" idea that you had at he beginnign of this thread?? (just asking, i honestly dont know what one costs, i just can't imagine it being cheap)

axles of evil
02-05-2007, 12:43 PM
from what i can see, it looks like the KB is a sub 5000 dollar mod. and considering what id have to sink into the GTO to get the kind of power it has (which would need a whole new motor and drivetrain basically) its a very cheap mod.

last night i kind of started leaning back toward the GTo for its great interior and the big 6 liter pushrod 'old school' kind of motor it is.

a GTO on spray from a roll is not to be taken lightly. a 100 shot of spray usually gains more than that at the wheels and much more torque for whatever reason. but from a dig the 285 tire size is very limiting. (i think) ... ive never driven a car with 285 drag radials and more than 500 hp. so i dont know how it would hook. anyone have knowledge on this?

there are a few (3) GTO's i know of hitting 10 high consistently. but they are freaks of nature. the fastest a common DD GTO would see is mid 11. which is still plenty fast. but its no 10's.

i think i have to do some soul searching and find what is most important to me.
