I drove the 86 out to my girlfriends house and it drove like it always does the whole way there. A few hours later i went out to leave and it won't start. Battery has power, starter is trying to start, and there is spark but it won't turn over. I think it's a fuel issue..but maybe a timing chain? I tried to catch it in gear and it wouldn't start that way either. Also, i just replaced the serpentine belt, could i have messed something up? Any help will be GREATLY appreciated!

her dad hooked this thing up to test for spark

if its getting spark then most likely your not getting fuel. can you hear the fuel pump when you turn the key to the forward position?

There is no noise coming from the fuel pump. not even the normal one

there ya go. either the pump is bad or its getting no power. there is a shut off switch in the trunk/hatch area by the tail lights. try messing with it to see if that does anything. sometimes if ya hit a bump real hard or slam the hatch, it will trigger the switch. i would say your pump is bad though

haha alright, it was worth a shot. I won't be able to work on it there and would rather pay someone on here than a tow truck company.

Thanks for the advise at such late hours. if I can't get it home i'll just load up the tools i need and do surgery in her driveway. how much of a PITA is a fuel pump on these things anyway?

its usually pretty easy. unbolt the straps and the tank comes right down

its a lot easier if its low/empty tho ;) yeah, easy to take down but easy with the fuel lines

I'd try the relay first. It's under the drivers seat on my 89.Easier than pulling the tank.

the girlfriends dad was bored today and fixed it. haha

Not sure how yet, but i'm guesing it was either the fuel shut off switch or the relay. Either way it's fixed and i don't have to spend money on it! haha

Doh, got to this late, but likely the relay (under seat). That or he added gas :D

He said it was the relay under the seat.

moral of the story, it's fixed, and the price was right! lol

Thanks for the advice!
