I want to find a cheap iPhone, most likely a refurb that i can unlock and use with verizon wireless. Is anyone on here doing that? Does anyone know anywhere i can find an iphone for a real good price?

Ain't gonna work on Verizon. Two different networks, the only network other than ATT it will work on is T-Mobile.

I have heard of people getting them to work on Verizon so I'm not sure that the information above is correct. I feel like I have a friend that did it but who it is escapes me at the moment.

I'm almost certain you can get them flashed , or buy them flashed for whatever specific provider you want. They can do it with almost any other phone, why not the iPhone?..lol

i dont think its possible.... ATT and tmobile use sim cards for their service so when you unlock the phone you can just use a sim card from a different provider. verizon does not use sim cards.
also, they use different networking standards...providers that use sim cards are on the GSM network and verizon is on the CDMA network. so i dont think this can be done but who knows? someone has probably done it

No sim cards in the iPhone. It's GSM vs CDMA. Like putting water in your gas tank.
As far as buying an unlocked iPhone it is a huge rip. You can unlock them yourself in about 5 minutes. I've hacked my iPod Touch back n forth plenty of times. As far as being afraid to brick them, anything you do to it can be reversed...except of course dropping it in water. There's plenty of people willing to buy 'bricked' phones/pods so they can resell them.
There's plenty of rumors of the iPhone coming to Verizon in late 09, right now ATT has exclusive rights in the US. Apple needs to expand the available carriers to avoid saturation and with Verizon being the biggest carrier available all signs point to it happening, but Apple is Apple.

Could it be someone using EDGE? It's possible to hack the phones to use the internet on other carriers, voice will only work on GSM.

I would buy one if Verizon has them. All the other networks suck IMO.

I think AT&T has the rights until 2010 and then I thought I heard that Apple was going to release it to the other networks but then again, that's just rumor.
I'm pretty sure you can't hack them for Verizon. I have seen many people run them on T Mobile but thats about it. I have an AT&T 3G 16 gig iPhone and I know it has a sim in it so like others have said, that plus the network differences won't allow it to work on Verizon.
I'd hold out though because my iPhone is the greatest little device I have ever bought. It has paid for itself 15,000 times over.
Or switch to AT&T. I didn't want to switch when I did but their network is every bit as good as Verizons, if not better and this is coming from a die-hard Verizon user for like 5 years. I've had AT&T for about 3 years now.
Either way, good luck.

Everything i've ever read, it can't be done... the iphone only runs on the one type of network, and verizon uses the other..... therefore the phone is not compatible...
I'm waiting anxiously for my verizon contract to run up - b/c i really want to get an Iphone... I have a LG Dare right now, and i really like it, but i think the iphone is unmatched... i've been waiting for something to come out to rival it better, but nothing seems to do it...

This thread got me to looking and i think I will be getting another iphone in July. On July 17th they are releasing the iphone 3.0 and it looks like they are taking care of all the things I did not like about the phone. I run a service truck for work and use the turn by turn navigation a lot on my blackberry and it was not available before on the iphone. I also need to send pics of things from the phone at times for work and that was also a pain with the iphone. You could not send an mms message with it. You had to always send them as an email. It looks like all of these issues are gonna be taken care of.

You actually can send MMS but you have to get an app to do it. You're right though, it is a pain. I'm excited for the new software update though. MMS and horizontal text being the biggest update.

I have the curve...I like it but takes a lot of getting used too. There are a lot of things that I don't like about it but it's too late to return it now. There is also a lot of things I do like about it.

When I was in Verizon about a week ago, I asked about the rumor of Verizon getting the iPhone. The girl said that as far as she knew she hasn't heard anything. That's one reason they have phones like the Storm and the Dare. She said that she does see Verizon getting the iPhone but not anytime soon. I dunno how true that is but just thought I'd share:thumbsup:
