hi yall i am new to the forum, my name is patrick i am a first time mustang owner here looking to upgrade my knowledge and meet to some new people... I have recently baught a 5 mustang gt with a 5.0 motor. the car was an r title but i couldnt pass up the deal... Since i bought the car in may i have had to do some work on it( the previous owner didnt know how to fix it). The owner before me thought is needed a new alternator and i got lucky on it just needing a battery, and have since replaced the window motor and switches for the windows and locks... i got a steal on the car and it only had 95000 miles on it.. I have put on underdrive pulleys and msd wires, cap and rotor,(waiting to buy the whole distributor) and bosch platinums... car has some minor body flaws but i plan on taking her to a flat black bfore all is said and done and having someone custom stripe some gt emblems to shave all the old emblems... my upcoming projects are to install new upper and lower intake manifolds (edelbrock) and goin with a cam that has an advertised duration of 282. also i am thinking on goin with a jlt cold air intake even though it has a ford racing intake on it now(dont know whch is better) iam married with a son who is goin on 1 year old so it is gonna take me a bit longer to do this, but as soon as i sell my boat i will be in some money..well enough of beating your ears thanks for any help yall may send my way!:goodidea:

havent gotten to take any yet but i will get them posted asap... oh i also want to take off the cats since that might free up some hp and give me a better sound, take off all the old plumbing for the a/c (might just leave the pump there as an idler pulley), and last but not least add a jet chip or some form of performance chip..

Welcome. x2 for pics.

I'd think twice about that Jet chip. All it really does is advance your timing which can be done the old fashioned way on 5.0's. Just remove the little plug hanging by your distributor, set the timing, and plug it back in. Depending on how high you go, you may need to run premium fuel. Be sure and listen for detonation. I'd hate to see you trash the motor within the first week of owning the car.

Agreed, chips suck, just advance the timing and get the same 7hp out of it. If you do bolt those intakes down don't be surprised if you don't feel to much seat of the pants power from it if you're not changing your heads in the process.

My suggestion to you would be this; Take some time and learn as much as you can about 5.0's BEFORE randomly bolting on parts. There is a wealth of knowledge on these cars that can make your modding go smoother and be more productive.

what recommendations do yall suggest? i wanted to stay away from aluminum heads after talking to a guy who owns a shop... he said i will have to keep checking the bolts and might run through gaskets.....
