what are you doing with your drivers air bag? I bought a delete for my pass. side but I can't part with the drivers side because it says Cobra on it. its the only part left that is stll a stock part, I thought I'd ask you cause we are in the same boat with our cars
Wolfpack Speed
01-30-2010, 05:14 PM
Ford makes a replacement that doesn't have the air bag attached. You have to paint it to match and it doesn't say cobra, but at least it will look factory...

OK, I have to ask....Why didn't you just start with a GT since you were cutting the car up and building it from a shell anyways? Would of made the initial cost of the car WAY less. In the begining, the plan wasn't to do as much as I have. I didn't want to do body and paint, build a motor etc. No better car to start with then a cobra, by the time you catch a gt up to a cobra, you could have bought one and then some! Once sposors started coming aboard, thats when I kind of went crazy with the car!

Been meaning to post some pics, just been super busy. I have a lot of work to do to get the car down the track this year. I ended up having Team Z do quite a bit more work then initially planned. Some of the work I could have done my self but I just don't have the time, some of the work I just had no business trying to do. I wanted to do the chassis work once, no interest in going faster then 7.50's. If I ever get to that point, I would build a new car from scratch. With that said, the car is certifiable to 7.50's and is mini tubbed for convenience. Here are some quick pics I took before I strip the car back down to a shell and get to work...

Going to be a while, I'm really backed up at the shop and finding time to work on the car is a problem. I see no reason it wont go down the track this year but I might be puting my foot in my mouth! Good luck with your car, take your time, and keep us up to date on your build!

I'm going to start making time to work on the car every Saturday, thats better then just letting it sit!

The original plan was to just use VHT Roll Bar Satin Black. The body shop ended up doing an epoxy base first, then hit it with the rattle cans. It needs gone over with some more VHT and I don't like the texture the epoxy created...but it will be fine...

Finally got a little bit in on the car last week. Not much but hopefully this is the start of working on it a little bit at a time! This year is obviously out, I would have to shut the shop down to get it down the track in time, not worth it IMO.
I had to pull some of the motor back apart so I decided to have Collins PC powder coat the valve covers, engine front cover and the main blower bracket to match my suspension and axle housing. Me likey:highfive:

Put the wiring back in the car as well as the dash, just need to paint and install my air bag delete on the passenger side. I also got the holes covered up in the firewall thanks to Scott Rod Fab! Very nice pieces that fit perfectly, he even included matching rivets! I left the protective coating on the pieces pictured for now. All the HVAC and clutch holes are covered up and I also have front and rear inner fender skirts for later on. Little bit of bling for the front of the motor, just need to get a fresh bolt and torque it down! Water pump is on back order but should be here soon. Next I need to modify the valley of the block so that the lower cobra intake manifold will seat properly. Supercharger is here, just need to order injectors and fuel rails so I can modify and fit everything. Headers will be last then in the car she goes:bouncy:

Waiting on a new FRPS and TPS and then I'm done with the motor for now. Should be able to get my car on a lift next week to plum the brake lines and to do a few other things. Ok, I'm really sick and tired of my money pit just sitting around and collecting dust. I will not give up on this car and I am determined to get my pile of junk down the track this year. I have been consumed with running my business and taking care of my customers, but I need to get my junk together.
The glide will work but it will take a lot of testing and tuning to get the correct combo together. I want to get into radial racing but I don't have the time or money to build the kind of combo it takes to compete. I have laid the foundation with the chassis work that has been done to my car but now is not the time and there is plenty of time to grow into the car down the road. I have been 10.0's @ 140 with my old 6 speed manual terminator and I am considering putting the car together with a manual just to go have some fun and get down the damn track! I love stick racing and totally enjoy putting a hurtin on a drive train just to run a number!
My question is, does anyone have any real racing experience with the T56 Magnum transmission? I can pulley the car to keep it within the power ratings of the tranny or just run it till it explodes, but I'm looking for as much feedback as possible! There are other tranny options out there but I'm curious about the Magnum for several reasons and I cant find anyone making power that is actually racing the car!
Either way it's been too long for me and I cant take it anymore, I need my 1/4 mile fix:sticktonge:

From my buddy John:
I have a G-force gear set and main shaft in my T-56. I think a stock T-56 will take a lot of abuse, just have to keep the gears lubricated. I feel the most important thing I have done with my tranny is putting an electric gear driven pump, pumping fluid out the drain plug and drilling a bulkhead fitting in the side of the case and spraying the head set gear when under boost. I broke even a G-force gear without the pump but once I put the pump on it I have never broke that gear. Under a hard pull all the fluid is in the gear of the tranny and that gear can run dry. If they plan on launching it hard at the drag strip then I would put a Viper main shaft in it. I broke my stock main shaft and that is when I decided to go with G-force.

Wow Mike, that's a big change.
I really think with the low-end and average torque that big KB will make that you won't be having as tough a time with the glide as you think.
Do you have the converter already?
I definitely want to see you get down the track this year asap, just playing devil's advocate and going to question if it will be cheaper or faster to get it to the track with the stick?
I have no idea, just asking.
Also, the Magnum and required clutch are going to be big money, not sure how much a concern that is.
If you do go manual, I know a guy who may want the Reid PG ;) <------seriously :)
What times you been keeping at the shop? I want to stop down soon.

I'm not saying it wouldnt be fun to be in a high HP auto car but thats not me... If I were to build a car it would have 3 pedals. I go drag racing 3-4 times a year but I get it out 2-3 times a week for a spirited drive and enjoy that more and an auto just isn't fun for that.

I respect everyones opinion and appreciate the responses! I like stick racing because not everyone can do it and I'm good at it! There is a lot to be said about a stick car that gets down the track in a respectable time for the combo, definitely a lot of fun! I cant tell you guys how many cars I embarrassed at the track that made more power then me just because I can row gears and they couldn't!
For those that have never been down the track in a fast manual valve body auto car with a trans brake, there is plenty going on and it's just as fun IMO! Like a stick car, there is plenty of testing and tuning involved so it will be a challenge for me regardless as I am 5 years removed from drag racing by the time I get to make a hit!
I'm just sick of not being at the track, if I'm not piloting a car I could care less to be there! Doing some brainstorming and driving my self nuts along the way, just glad the blood is flowing again and I hope to get things together in time to make some hits this year, regardless of the combo!
Thanks!
Mike
