Well, tonight we are getting Regans 2003 Cobra that he has been dealing with. After his purchase and the car getting damaged being removed from the trailer, various drivability issues that WolfPack Speed had to work out and his other minor issues.
The car has some issues that need to be addressed, we have all winter to work that out
Background on me.
I have owned a couple fast cars. I do feel that as far as street legal vehicles, this mustang is most likely the fastest. WolfPack dyno'ed it at 503 RWHP on what he called a "Safe and conservative" tune. My current most powerfull vehicle is a sled pulling truck, it is a 1979 Ford with a SVO A-460 block with 521ci. It has iron EX-514 heads and intake, solid roller, Pro-Systems Dominator, Sony Bryant crank, Manley rods, Mahle pistons, Titanium REV valves, Jessel Mohawks...blah, blah, blah. It put out 975HP at the crank on a water brake dyno.
From my time looking over the car, I can tell you that Regan and the owner previous to him had spent some time in performance catalogs! This car also is a "R" Title theft recovery out of Texas. It appears to have been hit hard in the front and was placed on a frame machine to be pulled back. I followed the car down the road and it does track straight.
It looks to have the following:
Maximum Motorsports "Maximum Grip Box" suspension kit.
Dyno tuning performed at WolfPack by John Lund with the SCT software.
Billstien equiped adjustable coil over conversion.
Solid rear axle conversion.
Aerospace Drag-Race Brakes (Anyone want to trade for stock!) For $400 I can convert these to a street kit. This is a viable option.
The claim is that it has aftermarket camshafts, injectors, and a MAFIA.
There is some sort of roll cage with swing open entry/exit bars.
It has aftermarket wheels, these will likely be sold off and stock Cobra wheels put back on.
There is a Grant steering wheel with a quick release mechanism. This will go and be replaced with a stock wheel and airbag.
There is a dent in the drivers fender, this needs repaired.
There is a dent in the black drivers door window trim. Needs replaced.
The solid rear axle is an 8.8 with a leaking pinion seal. This will be repaired.
The hydraulic lines going to the rack are bent/deformed and rubbing each other as well as rubbing the rack. These will be replaced.
There is a remote oil filter kit and the braided lines are rubbing multiple items. This will re-routed.
Brake lights do not function. This will be repaired.
It has some sort of crazy hard clutch, WolfPack suspects it may be a dual disk clutch. This may get removed in favor of a RAM single disk.
Body lines between doors/quarters, doors fenders, and fenders hood are all mis-aligned. I will take it to a body shop to get straightened out.
Once this is all completed, it will make a nice weekend cruiser and car cruise ride. It is acceptable as is, but needs some TLC to make it right. I consider it a work in progress that I can take to completion. At 500 RWP, it should prove to be a fun ride!
My username is from the lead charactor in "Escape from New York", a 1981 film staring Kurt Russel.

When we take delivery of the car, I will get some pictures and post them..... because everyone knows... a post is worthless without pics!

Well,
The car was sold by one man, and purchased by another. Now the car will get the final steps to put it "right" and get it into shape for street/track/cruises, NOT for a car show! I just don't have the energy to make it "car show" perfect, spotless, and "correct" to start trying to show it. It is far to modified and far too "off" of stock. A points winning show car she will never be. A hella fun hot rod she will forever be!
I did take a couple pictures of it last night after it got a bath. I will get them uploaded and posted shortly.

Rear shot. Regan told us that he added the blacked out "COBRA" stickers into the recessed letters of the bumper.

And, her comfy new home. She will never again see freezing temps or scorching heat. She will sleep peacefully in a secured garage and live often in a climate controlled bay. Her life will be one of pampering, excitement, proper care, and warm afternoons at the cruise!

Now that was a good eye there! You saw the corner of the bumper, in a shadow, out of focus.... and new that there was a 65 mustang in my house. You scare me son. Go buy some nudy books and get your mind right!
That is a 65 Mustang that had a 250 straight six. Now it has a bored/stroked 250 straight six with a Holley 2 barrel, adjustable valve train, performance camshaft, electronic ingnition, built automatic trans, and heck.... I may get the throttle cable assembly on it one day and actually start it! Maybe next year. The 65 has not moved from that position in 2 years.
The 79 is in the lower level garages. Engine is out and on the stand for the winter. Not that I can not still take a picture of it.... There is also a 1971 Chevelle SS that has been restored and placed in the lower garages. It has been there under a cover for about 10 years.... waiting for my 10yr old girl to turn 16. My daughter was named Chevelle after my car that I have had for 22 years now. She will be the next person to drive that Chevelle.

Sorry, your 79 and mine are very different. Mine has air bags for rear springs with a 4-link, ladder bars on the front axle, headers through the hood, and an alluminum bed. It is a trailer queen.... on the trailer, to the dirt 300' track, on the trailer and back home.

No need to apologize. :) I didn't expect an a-460 blocked, EX514 headed deal to be a street truck. :rotflol:
I'm just happy to see another old-school guy on the board.
I'd say the color is silver metallic....I would imagine there is a sticker on the door jamb that says the color code.

Are ya looking for a Dana 70 rear for that thing? I have one sinking into the back yard with 4.11 gears and it's complete to the brake drums. We run Dana 80's, so the "small" 70 rears had to come out. I also have a 600hp offset ground 500ci 460 that put 420 at the ground in a 78 F-250 C-6/NP-205/Dana 70. I would guess that to be 550-600 crank and it is a pump gas engine. If I don't find a use for it or sale it, I am putting it in my 71 Chevelle SS for my daughter to drive in 6 years.
I kind of thing a BBF in a Chevelle would be about the slickest thing ever seen on earth! Imagine all the bowtie freaks crying and wanting to throw down with me at car cruises over my "POWERED BY FORD" Chevelle! That would be a funny as heck thing to watch!

The Cobra looks great! Sounds like you have a nice collection of toys!
John, it looks like you do as well! Love the truck!! My Dad had a 76 F250 high boy when I was younger, that thing was sweet!!

Nah...i'm going to keep it low hp for now...hopefully the 60 rear will hold up in the stock class at the local fairs. This winter it's getting a 60 front and next year a mild 429 for the stock class.....it's primary purpose is going to be a functional street truck and secondary is local fair pulls. I need to find what pulling association rulebook is used for the local county fairs first before I start on the engine.

If your making any power at all, the 60 will not take it.
Have you been over to www.TruckPulls.com (http://www.TruckPulls.com) yet?

I'll add, the 44 in front will take a ton of abuse compared to the fragile stick you have in the rear. Your priority is bass-ackwards. Worry about the rear!

09-18-2009, 03:30 PM
Hmm....everyone i talked to breaks the 44 up front well before the 60 in the rear.....(remember....STOCK class) :) i.e. - no hp
I can't remember if i've been to truckpulls.com or not....I'll have to check it out. I'm guessing they have the rules listed for each class.

My 79 ran stock class with its Dana 44. This was with a 500ci
It then went to the Street open class with the same untouched 44. This was the 500ci engine evolved a bit.
Then I started some open street legal with hanging weight 60" in front of the Dana 44 with a 6200 lb limit. Same 600 HP 500ci.
Then it went to Run What You Brung at 8000 LBS and I tossed in a Dana 60. The Dana 44 never broke. Also at the same time it got the Dana 80.
During the early days, long before 500ci evolved and hanging weight, I had broke 4 Dana 60 rears. After enough insanity, I swapped for Dana 70 rear axle and never broke it. It is too expensive to keep taking half days of vacation to search for Dana 60 rear axle shaftes every other week plus buy the axles.
This is my opinion, what do I know...... I'm just an ameture puller that just got into the game in about 1995 or so and went from Pure stock to Run What You Brung :]

Welcome to SCS!! Lots of beautiful rides. Congratulations on the Cobra =)
I haven't said welcome yet, but I'm glad that you're getting a lot of the kinks that Reagan had passed on to you worked out. You seem to know your way around cars pretty well!
I saw this picture and immediately thought of this thread, then realized I didn't say hi yet.

Yea, I was trying to think of some nice catchy username to use... and all I could think of was Escape From New York, where Kurt Russel had the large Cobra tattoo on his gut..... I thought that the younger folks may miss the meaning, but those born in the mid 70's and earlier would surely remember who Snake Plissken was!

The only one I really remember is Escape from LA which is one of my fave. satire movies. I noticed the name right away haha. I haven't seen New York in a long time. And I'm born 1983.

Ok new request....pics of the 65-66 in the garage as well as the 79. :)
It is a 66 in the garage. I need to get new pictures of it. Since you mentioned it, I decided to light a spark under my butt and get it finished and out of the garage. That is not mine, I am doing the engine for the owner.
I removed the 250 that was in it and bad. Got another 250 and did some machine work, added a performance cam, adjustable valve train, headers, holley 2brl adapter and a half a 4150:).
I have no clue what to expect, but when I researched it I was seeing guys claim 170HP and even more. That should run pretty good compared to the stock 250.

Thanks Ray. I've always like the 73-79 F-series but a buddy of mine just finished a REAL clean 67-72 style and I gotta say, I'm leaning towards that being my new favorite. Still, I've never taken the 79 out and stopped somewhere without someone telling me how much they like it. The color is close to DSG.
