I was thinking about purchasing a shotgun for my house for security purposes. I was wondering what the laws were for purchasing a shotgun, I thought you could buy one at the age of 18, but the one website I looked at last night said 21. I wasnt sure if that was because it was a pistol grip n maybe that changes the rules on it or maybe just that sites policy, hopefully someone can clear this up

Pretty sure you can buy one at 18. Just to be sure call a local gun shop or gander mountain.

im not 100% sure on all the rules but im pretty sure you can buy any gun except a handgun at the age of 18.

you should go to a gun store or a place like gander mountain like stated above and just have a talk with one of the employees there...they will be able to answer all your questions

id advise against a pistol grip anyways.if i was you i would go with a nice semi auto shotgun or a pump action. nothing quite like the sound of a pump action chambering a round. people know to get the **** out when they hear that.

remington>mossberg any day of the week IMHO lol I have an 870 mag mike...your welcome to check it out if you like. 870's have alot less moving parts than the mossberg....oh and the silver on the one I posted isn't nickel, its a silver version of a "parkerized" finish...

Get yourself a Remington model 870 Express Magnum and dont look back. Buy one with a full stock and you can buy an aftermarket pistol grip one. If your gonna keep it in your house i wouldnt worry.

This is comming from someone who has shot over 800 firearms in the last year:thmbsup:

I personally own two of them but mine are super Magnums that chamber 3 1/2" shells

Get a Mossberg 590 Defender! Can get one with pistal grip, or adj. synthic stock, or both, or regular stock. Awesome shotgun. I have a Mossberg 500 Field, 835 Grand Slam Turkey, and the Home Defender! They are top notch!

I have a 590 with a pistol grip and top folding stock forward grip and tactical light. Awsome gun for home defense! It's not bad on the wrist at all. Well, that is unless you have little girlie wrists. :D

The simple racking of the slide as said earlier is the most reconizable and intimidating sound anyone coming in you house will ever hear. Here's a pic of mine:

not true.

not true.

X2, BTW, you can buy a pistol grip and change it out yourself in about 30 seconds. There is only one bolt and the pistol grips and aftermarket stocks are cheap. A top folder like I have w/ the pistol grip will cost you about $60.

mike, do your research when it comes to firearms. guns are a personal investment and a security/defense tool that could save your life.... ask yourself what do you want to do with it... do you want it under your pillow haha, do you want to be able to use it for hunting also... you cant go wrong with mossbergs (500,590) go there site... many options... very affordable... remington (870)s are great also... my personal choice is a bennilli (m4) but thats more expensive... but its also a semi auto..... go to my buddys youtube channel

look up tactical shotguns, 500, 590, and 870..... this weekend theres a show at the greensburg mall if you wanna go let me know brother.

Right on Ed. I shoot sawed offs at work all the time from the hip. Most of them dont even have pistol grips. Just the nub of stock the aholes didnt cut off.

Dont EVER fear the recoil.

My choice would be the remington 870 with a full stock, plus there's lots of accessories available like differant stocks, pistol grips, barrels, mag extentions.

I have a 870 with a 18.5" barrel, 7rnd mag and a full stock. I picked up a used one with a 28" barrel for a 125.00, had the barrel cut and added the mag extension, here's a pic of it mixed in with a couple other guns.

If you're looking at a semi-auto shotgun, IMO there are only 2 to consider, the Binelli M4 and the FN SLP.

I agree partially and would say there are 3 only to consider, a Benelli M1,M2 or M4
