As i was driving today my car shut off and continued to do so. The rpms will drop really low then it just shuts right off. No check engine light or anything. Sometimes it will start right up and drive fine then you come to a light and nothing, just shuts off. I've to keep it revved or else it will stall. I read something on another forum with some guys having similar problems and the intake air controller was brought up alot and was told that i could just try and clean it instead of replacing it. Any ideas??? On my old avenger i had a simliar problem and it was the crank position sensor?? My rides an 02 5spd gt with 11,000 miles. Help!!

I had a car that did that once. It turned out it was the alternator that was bad. The car was running off the battery and draining it, causing the car to stall.

Definitely sounds like an IAC to me. Try tapping on it with a screwdriver and see if changes your idle, or if it will idle at all. You can try cleaning it but that usually only helps when the idle is too high (carbon buildup keeps the pintle from closing, not so much keeping it from opening). Try swapping it with another (try borrowing one first, they're not a $10 part ) and see if the problem goes away. But with no "check engine" light, hints to me that the computer doesnt "see" the problem, and that the other sensors are working as well. Pretty sure I have a one if you want.:goodidea:

Yea i just tried cleaning it and that didnt work so i'm assuming thats its prob bad. You've to keep it revved or the idle drops down and it stalls out.

if you want max performance all the time you need to keep that mass air meter clean as a whistle, i clean mine in my expedition alot just to keep the gas gauge happy and high... So it is deff a good idea to try

Same thing happened to me a while back. A new idle air control valve solved the problem but you might be able to get away with just cleaning iac valve with some carb cleaner.

Remove the IAC on the TB....be careful not to mess up the gasket. clean with carb cleaner....move rod in IAC valve back and forth a few times...make sure it moves freely. Reinstall...if you still have the same problem...try cleaning the MAF as previously mentioned with ELECTRONIC PARTS CLEANER ONLY.

It could be a few things. I am in Robinson if you want to bring it over? I had that issue when my IAC went. I cleaned it and it worked fine for about a month but I had to change it.

My 98 stalls also the same way your car does. I dont want to sound stupid but where is the IAC located to clean. My will run very rough for a while then finally start running right after a while
Thanks Bryan

only those two screws and the connector plug holding it on...could be stuck if original....give it a few taps with a screwdriver or something....it will come off.
