Into the market for a new gun, looking for something different; suppose this is kind of a feeler add, see if anyone has anything out there...I was checking out a Galil 223 the other day, was pretty nice looking, price wasn't bad, but it didn't look that well built..also the AR 15 was nice looking, but a little too expensive new. Let me know what you guys have for sale and feel free to voice your opinions on the galil if you've ever had some experience with it.

You kinda have to be more specific than just "rifle".

What are your plans for it? Target? Hunt? Fun/Sport?

Do you want large (30 cal or larger) or small (22 to say 270 win) caliber?

Semi Auto? Bolt Action? Lever Action? Pump?

Looking for something semi auto, more less target and fun/sport shooting more than anything..just put this out there to see what some of the guys on the board have, I know there was a thread or two I had seen on here a few months ago..

I really dont know your experience level and or budget.

For someone getting into shooting a nice 22 LR semi auto rifle would be a nice starter gun. Ammo is still cheap and you will be able to learn the basics with it. You can always get something bigger and more involved down the road.

Any brand would do, Marlin, Ruger, Winchester.

Smith and Wesson even makes an AR style 22 LR semi auto that isnt as expensive as the .223 model and would be a nice plinking gun.

The original imported Israeli Galil's were well made guns, but they are very pricey, probably 3k+. The new Galils I beleive are made by century arms and made from kits with a certain number of US parts for 922r compliance reasons, nothing like the original Israeli guns, heard both good and bad things about them. Plus mags and parts may be hard to get.

I would get an AR for the simple fact that accessories are endless, mags are cheap and parts are plentiful. I think you can pick up a brand new Stag arms or Smith&Wesson AR for around 800.00. These are probably your best 2 optioins in this price range. You can also look into a DPMS as I think they can be had for less, but DPMS would be my last option, they are among the bottom of the barrel in the AR world.

I love my Bushmaster AR-15. I haven't shot my new Romanian AK yet so I don't have any input on that. I enjoy shooting the AR a lot though and also my Remington 700 bolt-action. Another gun I have fun shooting that really isn't worth the MSRP but is a decent gun is a Ruger Mini-14. They aren't good enough shooters IMHO to justify the $600+ msrp, but find a decent used one like I did for cheap (paid $250 for mine) and it is a fun shooter.
