I know I'm probably gonna get flamed for this but I acquired a new daily driver.

It's a 2003 Volkswagen GTI, 1.8L Turbo with a 5spd, It has a FMIC and a 3" Magnaflow turbo back exhaust on it, lowered and came with 18" konig hot swap wheels on it. One was broken but I am ordering a repalcement and my wheels off my cav are on it for the time being. It needed a new instrument cluster adn thats about it. Quick little car for a 4 cylinder. Gotta love turbos.

Looking to be taking my boat to the shipyard in june and then its gonna be saving money to start on the stang build again since I will hopefully be home long enough to do some stuff to it before I deploy again. I was gonna start in January but got deployed to Haiti for 2 months.

I'll get some pics of the GTI once it gets the cluster installed and programmed by VW.

If that's a self-portrait in your avatar, we honestly don't care what you drive!! :biglaugh:

I drove a mid-80s GTI way back in the early 90's and it was a blast. I'm sure today's version is twice as fun! :goodidea:

welcome to hell

I am learning that these things are cheap to fix, at least with my stang I can pretty much do anything it needs to have done, this thing seems everything has to be done by a dealer :censored:

Thanks, I now have a ford, a gm and a german car LOL

That it is, even with it having some issues it was quick, hopefully fixing the cluster will fix the issues it has.

Here's a pic my sister took, it doesn't have the wheels on it that are in the pictures right now, I was gonna get some good pics after trying to wash it tonight but it started raining down here in SC, figures.

I like it, I just drove it from VA to SC this sunday and it rides great for being lowered.

I still have somethings to fix on it like the ABS, Automatic Slip Reduction, Airbag lights are on as well as the brake pad wear sensor light.

the ABS, and brake pad wear sensor will be fixed when I replace a harness on the front left that has the connectors for those two sensors in it.

I also am looking for an 18" Konig Hotswap wheel to replace the broken one so I can put the wheels back on it.

Car looks good. I like everything but the wheels, but thats a personal preference. I think the stock multi-spoke gti wheels look better

I think the wheels are ok but they came with the car, and currently one of them has a broken lip. I have the 16" Motegi FF7's on it right now. I would love to get new wheels but just not in the budget right now lol

VEEEEE DUB!!!!! good move!! sometimes I wish I never had a mustang and would have built my GTI.. But then I think damn I would have a slow car!!! HAHAHA but the vw feels faster than it is with that small K03s!!

Yeah I am definitely loving the boost lol, I am wanting to redo the FMIC and piping but it won't happen for a lil while. I also have been looking at the Stage 3 turbo kit from APR that will give it 340HP on 93 octane.

Yours is a 6spd isnt it? I wish mine was, I need to get VAGcom so I can diagnos the lights that are lit up on the instrument cluster

Ya mines 6 speed. I think they call it a O2M? Wat lights are on?

ArmyWarrant

ABS, ASR, AIR BAG, BRAKE PAD WEAR SENSOR AND CEL.

The CEL light is the upstream O2 Sensor and I have to retp my down pipe or order a new one, the old sensor messed up the threads and I was lucky enough that it went back in so I can drive it.

I drive a 2000 GTI VR6...Nothing to be ashamed of at all! It's been pretty good to me and is fun to drive! My brother is a service manager at Day VW in Moon so I get an inside scoop on any problems I may come across. Good looking ride! Enjoy it!

Here's mine:

just change the brake pads with a new sensor and that will go off. did you try pushing the ASR button to turn that off?? what codes to you have?? a regular scanner will read that.

I put new pads on it but, when I first got the car the PO had drove the car for a while with a bad wheel bearing and the brakes failed on him andhe hit a curb which is what broke the wheel. Also while he was driving it with the bad bearing it cut the harness for the wheel speed sensor and the brake pad wear sensor.

I soldered in new wires but I think I need to replace the harness and the wheel speed sensor and then I will put new pads on it again.

The only codes I got when I scanned it was for the O2 sensor.

I have tried pushin the ASR button and it don't do anything.

I also discovered today that the hatch won't open and since I don't have anything but a valet key for the car you have to use the button inside the car to open it. I can feel it seem to pop the latch but it still won't open, IDK what's going on there

Well its back to having the Konig hotswaps on it. I also fixed all the lights, put a new harness in for the left front abs/brake pad wear sensor sensors, and that also fixed the ASR light. The airbag light was on because the stealership didn't reset it when they put the new cluster in:censored:

I am also going back to stock with the intercooler, the FMIC is just to big for my taste.

just throw some black paint on that front mount, hide it a little

ArmyWarrant

I might do that, but it also hangs a lil lower than I like, I am wanting to lower the car a lil especially in the back and I really can't with the front mount on it. IDK I already bought the stock intercooler stuff. I might see if I can remount it and get it some more clearance.

Car looks nice! :awsome:

How can that intercooler survive exposed out front like that?

ArmyWarrant

The bottom is banged up a lil, which is why I want to try and go back to stock, I think the only way to get it raised enough into the bumper is to cut the metal reinforcement and notch it for the intercooler. I might look at it this weekend to see what I can do about it.
