I am looking at buying a 1989 LX vert 5.0 with an AOD in it. I'm a lil leary on it though because the transmission takes forever to shift gears. I know some older cars have vacuum modules that control shift points. Is this the case in the 89 AOD?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I can get the car for $800, it neeeds some work but seems relatively mechanically sound as far as running and such with the exception of the Trans. It needs a rear window but I know that is relatively easy as I've done it before. other than that it needs painted and thats about it.
Thanks guys

few things..
1.is that rust on the inside lower door jam???
2.i dont remember under 90's clusters havin any warning lights in the center, thought they were on the bezel cover on the right.
3.if ya do get it, first thing to rid of is lights/hood.. yuck
4. hows the rest of the car for rust?underneith? allover?
5.ask why the car is in primer? use a magnet to check for putty..
tranny can be replaced, check the fluid. could be low

AOD uses a tv cable no vac module on a mustang, if it slips and its an aod just assume it needs rebuilt. If you get it home and adjust the tv cable and it starts to shift good then awsome!! Just buy based on the tranny being bad.

Thanks guys,
What looks like rust on the lower door jamb isn't rust it's the factory color of the car. The car is pretty solid from a quick look around.
With the TV cable adjustment that is done right at the throttle body correct? The transmission shifts fine if you shift it manually but if you start in drive it takes the car getting high into the RPM's to shift. I think I may just go ahead and buy it even if it needs a trans, might try and talk the guy down sonce it needs a trans and the rear window portion of the convertible top replaced. am currently down in South Carolina with my boat in the shipyard so I would have to fix the trans or replace it to drive it back to VA before September.
