Ha, yea, the gas gauge is indeed broke. But, I don't think that the car would only take 3 gallons of gas solely based on the gas gauge. I've run the car to empty 2 or 3 times now, and the most I can ever fit in the tank is 3 gallons... Oh well, guess I'm just gonna have to rip things apart and see what i can find.

Crazy....
Drop the tank, remove the fuel pump retainer and have a look in the tank.

I never had this happen to a fox, but our Ford van was doing the same thing,
the vent tube that runs alongside the filler neck was clogged.
Also there was a pressure checkvalve in the filler neck where it meets the tank.

Good thinking!! Could be a stuck vent valve on the top of the tank too. Blow the line out 1st.

Hows a fuel filter stop it from taking fuel into the tank?
