So I ran my 2005 Mustang GT coupe, automatic, at PRP last weekend. I went 13.27 @ 105 on my best pass, with a 13.29, 13.31, and 13.33 to back it up, all at 105.
Car has a JLT CAI and a Bamachips tune- that's it. Stock rubber, stock gear, stock everything else. I launched at 2000 RPM on my best pass.
So, I'm wondering if I can eek out a high 12 with just a few more small bolt ons- wondering if I could get there with:
- BBK twin 62mm throttle body for a few more ponies
- Pypes Pype Bomb axle back (muffler delete) for a few more ponies (I know axle backs aren't supposed to add power- but I'd have to think that I'd gain SOME power by deleting the mufflers entirely, and lose some weight in the process)
- 275/50/17 rear tires so I could launch at 3000-3500
Thoughts? Think it's possible?

My buddy Charlie has gone 12.2 at ~111mph in his NA auto 2005 GT. I'll look and see what mods he has done as I don't remember exactly. I do know he has Kooks long tubes, high flow cats, SLP cat-back, Bama tune, JLT CAI, spyder shaft, and either 4.10 or 4.30 gears. He also had a different torque converter but went back to stock if I remember correctly. You may remember him from the 94-95 boards as onebad95. I know he has posted on a lot of the other S197 sites about his car and what he has done if you want to search.

If it's red and he goes to prp I know this car. Impressive car and nice guy.
I think with your mods you want and adding drag radials, it's possible. If you ran recently the air was probably perfect for racing, so if you get stuck next season on warmer days it might seem a little slower...

That is awesome and seems to reinforce alot of what I'd been thinking! I'll do some searching.

I agree. I've had this happen to me plenty of times before.

My friend is actually from New Hampshire and he has a black with gray stripes car. Its cool to hear there are other auto owners though hitting up the tracks and running respectable times though.
I did a litte more research and found the following posted by Charlie:
Onebad95: The car is an 05 gt with kooks long tubes, high flow cats, tci 3k stall, 4.10 gears, spydershaft, sct tune by bamachips and jlt cold air.
We went 12.39 @ 109.12

In the end his fastest time before putting on a turbo kit was:

Here's a better video of some of his passes. All of his runs were on drag radials:

Definitely some drag radials and gears....
A tq. converter would be a nice addition, and will make the car WAY more fun to drive around regularly as well....
Like Mike showed above, a 75 shot will certainly do it as well

Paul, the links and info you've posted is awesome. I always like finding a car that's achieved my goals for me to copy off of, and it looks like this is the one. :D

Definitely look at getting an aluminum driveshaft. Easy enough to do and may shave a tiny bit off.
