Hey guys next upgrade i want is gears for sure! my goal is to be a better car than my dad's old '94 cobra and he had 4.10's. so i liked how those felt (i even drove it a couple times) but his best was either a 14 flat or 14.1 on the strip. i've seen some drag stangs with both gears? and i guess i would like to have a gear nice for the streets as well too obviously. but i see alot of reviews of people saying 3.73's "are just right balance and good to have for streets and not to crazy or something" and some ppl will tell me 4.10's "are too low" so idk i dont want to regret it and I'm definitely not worried about too much power! I WANT a BEAST 0-60! so just seeing if i can get some good advice, i've also seen great reviews on both gear sets...
A lot of people I know that have had 4.10's installed wish they never did, then they put in 3.73's.

Exactly what i did, and love it!
I also happen to have a few sets of 3.73's laying around too.

T5 = get 3.73s
AOD = get 4.10s

I had a lightly modified '90 5.0 LX daily driver with 4.10's and while they were fun, I swapped in a set of 3.55's. Way more enjoyable for a DD than 4.10's. Sounds like you would probably like 3.73's like the others have said.

3.73's with 26 inch tall tires worked the best for me at the track on a mostly stock car. That was a 5 speed. If you have an AOD your gonna need a converter too.

Ideally you will want to gear the car so that you cross 200 or so RPM above peak HP in 4th gear as you go through the traps. I've had 5.0L cars with 2.73's, 3.08's, 3.55's, 3.73's, 4.10's, and my dad's has 4.30's. For my 302 setup with H/C/I 4.10's were the best gear for me.

My vote is 3:73's. They are good all around gears. That's what I have in my GMC Sierra, and the gears I ordered in my Cali.

thanks everyone, gave me alot to think about. maybe i should go 3.73's? as long as they give me that crazy bottom end for the quarter mile then i'm happy with those.

I would never do less than a 4.10 but what do I know?

Exactly what I had in my 306 5 speed vert. Crossed the finish line right before I had to shift into 5th. Perfect. Difference is nil in highway driving between 3.73s and 4.10s.

so the 4.10's will work with the stock aod or will i need to dump some money in the trans to make it stronger
