recently i just had dual 2011 5.0 mufflers put on my 2010 4.0 v6 mustang...sounds pretty simple right? but its been a never ending nightmare starting with stripped holes rattling and bottoming out, courtesy of the garage...well ive been noticing that my car vibrates alot during idle and certain times i have a rattling coming from i believe something inside the right muffler itself but it will go away or be reduced if i put it in neutral...any thoughts? the pipes on it are 2.5" and the only other thing i have done is a K&N intake

Check all your fittings and the mounts where the mufflers mount to the frame?

Sounds like whoever installed them didn't too great a job... :/
Go under your car and start pushing around on your exhaust (make sure its not hot when you do this lol) and see if you can find it being either really close to or up against something. That would be your rattle.

oh yeah they did a real great job ...you would think $450 would get you alot better quality than this. but i have checked the underside of that car like 30 times and the hangers and everything, i think its bottoming out by the gas tank and the rattling im pretty sure is something inside the muffler itself cause the hanger doesnt really move enough to rattle and its surrounded by rubber

Who installed them?? Where did you buy the mufflers? Junk yard, new, or what?

Wow that's terrible, you were raped. Sounds like a shady exhaust place to me.

Luckily it's more of an annoyance than something that can be a long term problem.

Hope you get it figured out!

Are the separate sections welded or clamped together?

If clamped, I would inspect each joint thoroughly- sometimes if it's just a little loose, it can result in weird buzzing/grinding/rattling sounds.

I wouldn't check just the mufflers, I would check the piping throughout the exhaust too.
I know since I put my longtubes on, it pulled my pass side exhaust in a bit and its hitting my upper control arm now and rattles occassionally.

and $450 is a LOT of money just to install some takeoff mufflers unless there was other work done too

If it will rattle at a stand still ,,, push down or to the side on the end of the tail pipes and see if it stops might just be a pipe touching something somewhere.

well bossman and i found a spot that might be touching a hose clamp on the other side so im gonna try adjusting that, the pipes sections are all welded, and i know now its alot of money but i kind of expected alot better...especially when the sign says "custom exhaust specialists" in big letters...luckily they told me now they are going out of business...wonder y???
