As most of you know I over-rev'd my engine in April 2005 at the SSOTN Spring Nationals at Cecil County Dragway and bent all of my exhaust valves. This was a result of a 3-2 shift which by my calculations sent the shortblock to around 8300rpms! OUCH! Anyway, its been nearly two years and I've made a number of purchases, but I have a ton more to do. I had a buildup thread here before the site crashed, but until now I haven't really done anything new to start a new one. Well, spring is here and the car needs to be running ASAP.

Here's what I already have done:

-Dart 8.2 Sportsman Block
-Scat 4340 forged crank
-Scat 4340 forged H beam rods with ARP 2000 rod bolts
-JE/SRP forged pistons
-Internally balanced rotating assembly
-Powerbond SFI balancer; 0 balance
-Fidanza SFI aluminum flywheel, 0 balance
-Clevite 77 main bearings
-Clevite 77 rod bearings
-Childs and Aberts rings
-Crane Cams billet timing set
-FMS billet steel blocker plate
-RNH Performance oil system package consisting of:
-Melling M10688 oil pump
-ARP chrome-moly oil pump shaft
-Canton 7qt oil pan
-Holley Systemax Intake
-AFR 165 60cc pedestal heads with lightweight valve springs/retainers
-My old FTI custom cam

http://www.mustangmods.com/ims/u/617/5519/73691.jpg

The heads are going to the machine shop this week to have a valve job done and then I will reassemble them and put them on the car. I'm only temporarily going to run these 165's. They will eventually be pulled from this shortblock and will go on my '90GT along with the rest of my old combo. I am outfitting them with a cool valvespring/retainer setup though and I will post up pics when they are done to see if anyone can tell what I did.

My '90GT that will be receiving all of my '95's old parts: (it looks rough but the interior and underside are spotless!
http://www.mustangmods.com/ims/u/617/3411/154913.jpg

My 17X9 Bogart wheels that fit perfectly with my stock front suspension ended up having clearance issues with my PA racing tubular setup and coil overs due to the BS I had selected for them. Since these wheels are a true 3 piece design, I am getting a new back half for the wheel to cut out 1" of BS and thus making it a 17X8 wheel. This should clear up my clearance issues and my 245 series tires will not look as stretched either on the smaller wheel.

I have a new Cervini's stalker front bumper, ABC exclusive saleen style side skirts, a MPS saleen style heat extractor hood, and a 1 of 499 cobra hardtop for my car. I still need to purchase my saleen rear bumper and when I do the car will be repainted and the new body kit will go on.

If I can swing it, a 6pt bar will also be going in the car.

Today I set in an old block along with my holley intake to see if the intake will clear my hood with a 3/8" spacer... thankfully it does!

That's it for now, I'll keep updating this as things get done.

Lookin good man. Where did you find one of those hard tops? Seems like that would be a pretty tough piece to track down.

I told me wife years ago that if I ever came across one that I'd do everything I could to get it. I was on ebay one night and came across it, and it was for local pickup only. It was right around my birthday and I basically asked everyone that would normally get me something to help chip in so that I could get this top. I paid a decent amount for it, but not no where near what I've seen some of them go for. The head liner is pulling away from the sides in the very back, I think it just needs re-stretched and glued. Other than that its flawless. Its heavy as hell though, I bet it goes a good 125-150lbs. DOH! Just what I needed... more weight to my already portly 'vert! The only reason why I bought it was because of its uniqueness. I love being able to drop the top and the top will be down more than this will be on, but I plan to never sell my car and when I had the opportunity to snag one of these very rare pieces I did. Plus, if and when I have my daughter in the car I think the hardtop will be a plus from a safety and "fumes" standpoint. LOL!

Here's some pics of the hood and hardtop on the car:

Thanks again guys, I can't wait to get this thing done!!!

Sean, its really hard to guess as an ETA as I haven't even contacted anyone yet about paint, but if all things work as planned the heads will be done and assembled in no more than 3 weeks. At that point the motor goes in, and it should be ready to run for the first time in 2yrs which is a BIG step in the right direction.

I got some parts today to help me with the heads. Here's my new 7* locks and valve seals:

http://www.mustangmods.com/ims/u/617/771/155580.jpg

I also picked up a blast cabinet from Harbor Freight as I got tired of never being able to find a shop that could do small parts for me. I hit one of my stainless steel FMS headers today with some glass bead and below is the results. I plan to powdercoat them with some high temp. coating I bought from eastwood a while back. We'll see if it holds like it claims, they say its good to 1000* and they market it for use with headers:

Well, the heads went to the machine shop yesterday. I was going to wait to order my new valves, springs, seats, and retainers until I saw for sure how many valves needed replaced, but now I think I'm just going to replace all of the exhaust valves so that they are all the same when they go back in.

I also ordered my new wheel halves for my bogarts from Steve at http://www.sjmmanufacturing.com last night. My wheels fit great until I did the coil-over/K member swap and then I had some clearance issues. Luckily, my wheels are a 3 piece design, so I am going to replace the back 1/2 with on that is 1" narrower thus taking 1" of BS out of the wheel and providing me with ample clearance.

Well, I powder coated my headers this weekend with some high temp. header coating. I just hope this stuff stays as nice as it looks now once the heat gets to it.

http://www.mustangmods.com/ims/u/617/771/157683.jpg

http://www.mustangmods.com/ims/u/617/771/157684.jpg

I also had my front tires removed and I started ripping my wheels apart. The reason for this is that I had these bogarts made when I still had the stock suspension up front, but when I did the coil-overs and tubular K member from PA Racing (which is a GREAT kit BTW) I ran into some clearance issues. I run a 245-45-17 nitto up front and these wheels used to be a 17X9. Since they were a 17X9 the tires looked stretched on the wheel. Lucky for me these are a true three piece wheel so I ordered new back halves from Steve at http://www.sjmmanufacturing.com that will take 1" of back spacing out the wheel making it a 17X8. This will provide the clearance I need and my 245's will no longer look stretched.

Update:

My heads are still at the machine shop but I hope to get them back this week. My new bogart wheels halves from SJM Manufacturing are here and I started reassembling the wheels last night. Over the weekend I worked on getting the old body kit off and test fitting the new bumper. The reason the hood isn't latched is because it hits one of my CC plate bolts and needs to be notched. This new bumper is EASILY half the weight of my old one. As I felt the difference in the two I couldn't help but wonder what it would have been worth had I not had the heavy xenon on the front when I made my 12.03 run. :( Anyway, here's a few pictures. The cervinis front bumper fit like a glove!

:woot1:

Yes. The sides as of now are going to be the ABC exclusive saleen style, and the rear bumper is going to be an ABC exlusive saleen style. I may get the cervini's stalker sides if I can wait until Carlisle to pick them up, but the rear is definitely going to be a saleen style as I don't like the stalker rear. I'd also like to find a set of export fender flares for it too like Rio has, but I've looked for months without any luck. :(

Troy- ME TOO!!!

Joe- I haven't got the scale out yet to measure everything, but I will be sure to do that before everything is permanetly mounted. From the feel of it, the new hood isn't any lighter than the old one. And you are right in that th stock hood is some sort of composite material, so I can't see losing much with the hood unless I went with a lift off carbon fiber piece. I know a guy that weighed his car with the xenon kit like I have and then after removing it and it weighed in at ~45lbs! I think this is because it was an add on kit instead of a full replacement bumper. I'm hoping I will see a decent amount of weight savings with the new parts, even though that is not the reason I switched them.

Well, I FINALLY got the heads all buttoned up. I had issues with installed height and therefore spring pressures. +.050 locks, different retainers, and cutting of the spring pockets were all required to get it right. I then ran into the issue of trying to put a head with 7/16" head bolt holes onto a 1/2" head stud... after a trip to my cousin's machine shop and an quick meeting with the drill press they now fit. I installed the new VTO valve seals, and then my wife helped me install the AFR spring cups, springs, retainers, and locks. Its late and I didn't get a chance to torque the heads down, but they are on the block. I checked pushrod lengths/geometry last night and I think I lucked out and will be able to re-use my old 6.300" pushrods with a ~.030" shim on the intake and a ~.019" shim on the exhaust pedestal. With any luck the rockers will be on tomorrow and I'll be on my way to getting this thing in the car this weekend!!!

I am making more progress, here's what I got done tonight:
-heads are torqued down
-rockers are on and geometry is checked
-headers are on
-timing cover/water pump bolts are tight (I needed washers as the dart block holes were not tapped as deep as the stock lock)
-test fitted the lower intake to check port alignment, it looks good so far!

I didn't actually resize them, I just had them cut deeper to arrive at the necessary installed height. My machine shop did it for me.

Looks like a Canton pan on it Paul. I had to inlist the 4" grinder on my Canton about 5 min. after pulling it out of the box. They insisted it would fit *perfect*.
