I wanted to get an opinion from you all regarding the collectable status of 87-93 Mustangs with a 2.3. I have a friend who has a nice 2.3 convertible and he does not want to do anything from stock because he does not want to devalue the car.

My feelings are there were so many 2.3 Mustangs that the collectable status is almost non existant. There are too many nice 5.0s available that he should have fun with the 2.3.

I do not see anyone selling a 2003 Terminator Cobra to get into a mint 87 2.3 Mustang :laughing1:

It is worthless and always will be. Mod away.

Lol, I'm probably the last one to ask since I abuse, modify, and otherwise hot rod a fairly rare piece (1 of about 1300) but I just don't ever see value there except as donor chassis. Heck, I'm hacking up a 2.3 vert now. Yeah, mod away.

Like has already been said, modding the car won't devalue the car much since it isn't worth much to start with. But if performance is what someone wants ( and if they're not as 2.3 savvy as Bob ), they'll be way further ahead ( literally and financially ) if they just start with a 5.0 car.

They have a little value now because of gas prices, but I don't ever see them being collectable. Especially a vert. Look on cl or any other site. The majority of the ones left for sale are verts. Seems hardly anyone wants a Fox vert, worse a 2.3l.

A 2.3 convertible price has got to be cheap. Some people think they have gold mine because it's a Mustang. You can get a 5.0 fox for a few dollars more. The gas mileage is a little worst than a 2.3 but you can pull out into traffic without holding on to your nuts and wonderinging if you will make it.

Before I would buy a 2.3 convertible, I would look for a 94-99 v-6 Mustang convertible. Price would be a reasonable and the car would have better power and definitely better brakes (plus five lugs).

I am a little off track but to spend the money for a 2.3, the price would have to be right!

Way more than that.

Seriously, 2.3 and V6 Mustangs will always have value, only because they make nice straight shells to swap V8s into. None of them have enough power to bend anything, so they are great to swap into. The 95 V6 I swapped was perfectly straight underneath.

Anyone who thinks a standard 2.3 or V6 Mustang will ever be worth anything has some serious issues. They made so many of them, they will never have any value. Plus the 2.3s are dangerously slow, you will get flat out destroyed by Prius' on a daily basis (no exaggerating).

You know, I might be interested in a straight up trade for a mint 87 2.3 Mustang.

In all seriousness though, I don't think that the value of a 2.3 will really increase unless there is a demand for swap shells.

I can see where the desire to have a mint 87-93 2.3 Mustang would make you want to get rid of or trade your Cobra. :laughing1:

Devalue his car? haha how much is a 87 2.3 worth, like $3000?

The jury is in. There is no potential for collector status on a 2.3 car. Future swaps and daily driver status is the life of a 2.3...
