4x4 beater

I'm looking for a four wheel drive beater for the winter. I only have about $1,000 to spend. I dont care if it has rust or needs body work or even some minor engine work. Im not picky at all about it. However since I am a firefighter, it does need to start and drive on the first try at anytime. Craigslist is killing me with pieces of crap that arent worth fifty bucks so I figured Id see if anybody has something on here.

i know where a ranger v6 5 speed was for 500 bucks. its beat up, didnt start due to an electrical problem.
