My one friend just bought that 96 cobra from tom clark. and this weekend we put a k and n intake on it, and he said that on his way to work the idle would go up and down on its own, and the car stalled once on him goin down the highway. I think it might be the IAC valve. anyone have any suggestions

sounds like an IAC. you didnt touch the tps right?
also did you have oil on the K&N? if so it may have gotten on the MAF sensor and is causing incorrect air readings.

did you disconnect the negative battery cable while you installed the intake? sometimes the computer is funny if it's not reset.

Start by simply disconnecting the batty to reset everything. Clean the MAF with some electrical cleaner and also clean out TB. I would also do the IAC. Don’t think you will have an issue after that. Sometime too much K&N oil will mess with the MAF.

what kind of filter? is it in the open or is it in the box? sometimes if it is in the open air the cooling fans can blow air in it and trick the mass air sensor, and be sure that all of the connections after the mass air are good and tight, if it is sucking air that is not being metered then it will cause problems...
