View Full Version : axles do i reallly need em?

so to make a long story short my car got ****ed up from patriot performance springs when i had cams put in an etc so my car is gettin fully built forged internals ported heads etc one of my friends told me i will need new axles, my car is a 2001 gt an its an auto w.rachet shifter i have the new motor with full bolt ons an nitrous will my axles be fine or will i need 31 axles i dont really go to the drag strip an if i do its once thats it i mess around on the streets but not every night so the question is need axles or mine will hold up fine? thanks

if you are going to spray it off the line and run sticky tires i would, but i dont think you have to.

unless you are planning on really beatin on this car, then you shouldn't have any issues...

no sticky tires an i usually cruise mess around once in a while race sometimes never really do crazy burnouts or donuts or anything like that

that was a really long sentence haha...
but anyways if your not beating on it everyday then i dont see why you would need stronger ones..use those till they break

Slicks at any point in time then yes. If not you may be fine.

this may be a stupid question but define your guys definition of beating on the car like every light spinnin off an buring the needle where ever i go smokin em up everychance i get like that or just the usual drive hard cruise drive hard cruise kinda beating on the car not sure or if its some other kind of beating on the car lol thanks:pepper:

When you are dead hooking vs. spinning is when you are stressing the axles. When tires spin or clutches slip the axles are not stressed as much as when you dead hook. I've seen stock long blocked 5 Liters shear an axle and they were putting down in the neighborhood of 230+/- to the tires. Then again I've seen 300+ RWHP launch on slicks with stock axles. A big gamble to say the least. IMHO.

so basically grabbing straight off the line ill put alot of stress on the axles but no just spinnin off the line corrrect?
