View Full Version : trailer for a bobcat?

Google ain't helping me. My father in law has a skid steer down in his foundry and I need to borrow it. They used to have a trailer for it but he doesn't know who took it last. Anyone know if Uhaul or another rental place has trailers that can handle the weight of one of these? I have no clue what the thing weighs or the model. '12 F150 will tow it, just have no clue about trailers. Figure someone round here has done this.

I know I can rent one and have it dropped off and picked up but 350 is a bit much for what I need to do.

A tandem trailer will haul it just fine. You haul would work for you for sure. Their trailers tow very nicely. Used one to haul my cobra to michigan for it's tune.

Where does it need to get from and to?? Also, how big is it??? I have a 18' tilt deck tandem that GVW's at 7,500#.

It needs to get from Elizabeth to Bethel Park. Turns out they have a trailer for it out in Moon, but now the owner is getting panicky about insurance.

I'm not exactly sure if it is a Bobcat, but father in law says he's guessing it's 7000lbs. At this point I'm not sure what's going to happen.

I would bet Uhauls trailers are 7,000 GVW, so if you tell them you are hauling a 7,000lb Bobcat they will turn you down most likely.

All bobcats I've seen on jobs are towed with a dual axle trailer. Hell, they tow mini excavators with em.

Yeah there is no problem with that, the trailers normally are good for well over what they are rated at, its the axles that put the limit on it. But you can get away with whatever, its just that don't let uhaul know or they will be hesitant.

Yeah, they told me to stay around 55mph on my journey to michigan. The speedo was always hangin around 70-75 and the thing towed awesome. :biglaugh: It's all just to cover their rear ends, can't blame them.

Here's a good twist. I had a stump grinder stop by and take a look at this PIA cherry stump. I was telling him what I wanted done with the stump and I'd have a bobcat coming to contour the ground around it. He asked where it was coming from so I told him. He said he wouldn't haul it, as soon as I hook it up I would need a CDL and med card and blah blah blah, Castle Shannon will nail you for $1000-1300 in fines, etc. I've never heard this. Waiting on a return call from a cop friend.

Anyone got dynamite or C4 for this damn stump?

I've never heard of needing a cdl for hauling a bobcat on a trailer. That would really depend on what you were hauling it with and on.

It's 26,000 pounds total weight for everything. Truck, trailer, and machine.

If you're over this number then a CDL is required.

That's what I was thinking, something like a dump truck, trailer, and machine. F150 + trailer + bobcat = 5800 + 2000 + 7000 is under 15000 and that's probably pretty high.

No clue where this guy was coming up with this stuff and his estimate was a bit crazy IMO.

True. The dang thing is about 2 1/2 feet off the street and about 4' above it. The street is 25MPH but it's more like 52. It's just too tricky for me to do, so I'm bustin my nuts shoveling and chainsawing. May take all summer, but when it comes out I can shove my neighbor's negative nose in it. Little hard work never hurt anyone.

I need the thing completely out to grade the hillside back before I get creamed pulling out of our driveway.
