so my old man decides to buy an 86 GN with 23k original miles on saturday... really nice car, repainted at one time.... not perfect... bunch of upgrades and a whole lot of electronics on the dash... scanmaster, knock sensor alarm, gauges, boost controllers, meth injection, bigger injectors... im lost and he is in way over his head as well...

who could i take this car to to have it gone over and make sure everything is good and in working order??

i have noticed that it has a brand new full exhaust but i can for sure hear a leak behind the passenger front wheel.... i also noticed that neither of the boost gauges moved while i moved it around the block and reved it up to maybe 3500 rpms in neutral.... he drove it home and never got on it.

seems to run good, doesnt smoke... never had anything turbo before and dont want to see him blow it up because something isnt setup right and i dont want to start turning knobs and put the hammer down and blow it up...

Be careful with it untill you get it looked at and tuned. Go to turbobuicks.com and learn how to use the the scanmaster. As far as shops locally there is 2 that I know of that mess with alot of turbo buicks. Shawns Auto in Clairton PA, and FJ Performance out by Leechburg . If you get on Turbobuick site check out the Northeastern forum, tons off local guys that will help you.

I think Kevin's car is pretty stock. Looks like it from his add at least.

For what it's worth..I have known Shawn for many many years. When it comes to these cars he is the man to go to hands down.

Thanks Ron for the compliment.:highfive:

Yeah, my car is mostly stock and an 87. That 86 looks very clean thou. Be very careful where you take it, these cars are very finicky<sp. Don't take it to your normal back yard mechanic. As someone else said, get on Turbobuick.com you will find tons of info on there.:goodidea:

Good luck with it! Mine is back on the market, the deal fell through.

we'll see what happens. he was told 2 weeks until the title comes in... he may try to trade it in at an RV dealer this week if they show interest in it.... i say keep it but he sees $ signs.

Well, got the car from erie to pittsburgh yesterday... found the last owner on one of the buick sites and went through his posts and found all the details on whats done to it

gt6152 turbo
duttwiler intercooler
atr 3" downpipe
snow methanol injection
turbo tweak 60# injectors and chip
208 camshaft
boost controller, knock sensor, and scanmaster
dts axle with 3.73's
rear air bags
adjustable fuel reg and guage
turbo 350 trans/shift kit and i believe some type of stall converter
magnaflow full exhaust
upgraded fuel pump

car drives pretty good and i got on it a few times(never went actual wide open) and its stupid fast, breaking tires loose at 25mph...

have a feeling dad will be looking to sell or trade.

Thanks for the recommendation!! we took it to fran at FJ and they got the boost gauge working, fixed the exhaust and checked it over.... He says the car runs great and i was shocked to hear it is running 27# of boost.... having him turn it down a little because that is excessive and dont know whats been done to the bottom end. looking foward to getting it back and being able to open it up and see what it will do....
