The monthly hosting fee for the site is 25.00, other than that there is a fee to keep the web address registered, it is cheap and is already paid for a few years. Every couple of years the vbuelitin software needs upgraded to get all the new features, that was less than 200 last time. Overall there isnt much maintenance other than doing backups weekly to store all the data incase the server crashes. Im bored with it and would like to see someone take over and put some effort into stickers, shirts, etc.

At the very least you're gonna wanna know how to run a forum and market it right if you want to make money doing it.

I'd be really interested in buying, but don't have the cash at the moment.

burntire

So some computer software knowledge is needed? You will need at least intermediate html, php skills and some server knowledge with cpanel /whm. Then you need an understanding of vbulletin. To do an upgrade to the latest version you are looking at a multi day event if you know what you are doing.

When things are setup the way you want there isn't a ton of work involved until upgrade time or a during a major failure on the server side. You always want to have current backups.

vbulletin is coming out with a new version. vBulletin 5. It's in beta testing right now. To upgrade this site it would cost $209. I just purchased vbulletin and it cost me $249 for a license. There is money involved when running a forum and keeping it updated so sponsorship is a must. :awsome:

I agree with travj31 and 2011GB/CS. If it comes down to someone not wanting to buy and run SCS on their own, I would be willing to purchase SCS if someone would take full responsibility of running it. So you're offering to buy it if someone does all the work and gets the remaining money left over at the end of the month after sponsors/bills? Or Let someone do all the work and being you bought it outright you just sit back and collect the earnings? Confusing statement??

Well let me be a little more clear about my intentions. The site is up for sale and no one has stepped up to buy it. I do not have the first clue how to run the site nor do I have the time. At the same time, I am not going to let the site come to an end. If it takes buying it so it still runs, I will do that. I would be willing to purchase it if someone else can run it. I AM NOT LOOKING TO MAKE A SINGLE PENNY OFF OF THIS SITE IF I PURCHASED IT. I have been saving some money to do some mods to my car but keeping this site alive for the 2000 some odd members will outweigh any increase in horsepower 2500 will do to my car. I will pay for the monthly bills and the profits can go to the person/persons that run it or it can be put back into scs to benefit the site. If anyone has any other questions please let me know. If it came across that I was looking for an easy buck by fronting money for the site or with my idea on how I could help scs continue if there was a lack of a potential buyer, I apologize, I thought it would be better received than it was.

Celeste - I knew from reading other posts you've made here on the forum in the past that your heart is definitely in the right place as you offered to purchase the site. Definitely a great gesture on your part if you ask me! I hope that everything works out so that the site can stay up and running for years to come.

I also really enjoy this site quite a bit. I refer a lot of folks to it, as well as to the vendors that sponsor the site. I have purchased 3 cars from folks on this site, sold a car to someone on the site, and sold, bought, and donated all kinds of things to the "members". The folks I've met thru SCS have all been good people that enjoy our hobby, and those are the kind of people I like to have as friends.

That is very admirable of you. You are a good person. I know noone that would do that, let alone put there car aside for the cause. I would at the very least ask to have the initial purchase paid back in installments.

I think I am just alittle too confused on how it all works to take it on myself. I am sure that with some homework and someone teaching me I could get a handle on it, but I just worry that I wont be able to do it and have to throw it back up for sale.

And honestly I hate to say it, but I would probably have to change the name to steelcitymusclecars or something. I think the biggest thing this site lacks is traffic. With it being a sole mustang site (yes i know its the point and yes I know some people dont have mustangs including me), but someone who just searches the internet with a nice car thats not a mustang looking for a local place sees this doesnt give it a second thought cause they dont have a mustang.

Thats my personal opinion though. But I know for a fact that I didnt sign up on here until I got my first mustang because I thought it was a mustang only site.

I think that the name doesn't mean much as there are members all over the board on the ownership front. But the biggest part of this site is it represents an entity of a car community if nothing else. I dont know how much brand power it has, but its something people can relate to, its just about bringing people out of the woodwork to build that community.

I think everyone is taking this a little out of proportion. He just offered it for sale if anyone is interested and his reason for it was he doesn't have much time anymore. Never once did he say "If someone doesn't buy this, I'm shutting it down." Just a thought.

I agree with Rob 100%.. We are all mature adults here and yes we act like kids sometimes, but it livens up the place. I agree with others that if its a personal attack then yes that crosses the lilne, but having a different opinion and expressing it is not a bad thing.

If someone does something to their car and wants opinons not everyone is going to like it and I dont think its wrong to say you dont like the wheels or you would change this. If someone doesnt want opinions dont post a pic and ask for opinions.

brand specific really closes the "market" on an already small "market" when you do a regional thing. This is not a national site so its really hard to go brand specific. I am not saying open it up to every car on the road. But to bring Dodge, Ford, and GM v8s/v6s will help alot and still wont bring in it too many people where it will turn into a pittspeed.

Also if you drop brand specific you will probably get more sponsorships, which equals more spread of mouth which equals more people which equals more traffic which equals more events and meets and allows the acquiring of t-shirts, stickers and so forth to become a reality.

I been on the site for a LONG time and been very active ever since and love this site, but lately its been dead. I remember getting on and having 4 pages when i clikced new posts, but now to get there i have to wait to log in for a week or two.

This is a for sale ad, but whoever does decide to take over and wants it to become a huge success (im not saying its not a success already cause I love lou and thank him for doing this for so long) needs to take this into consideration and take suggestions into consideration.

Not to relate this to PittSPEED but, I think a specific area to call people out and be a keyboard assassin wouldn't be a bad idea. I think that would help to curb all the useful threads going to shit. On PittSPEED, you paid a premium membership fee ($10/yr) to get access to that area and you can go nuts. Outside of that, it's Ban City bitch.

I like this idea. This will also help with the fees of the site and with getting t shirts and such.

I am not saying this place is being ran wrong or not good enough. I think that Lou just doesnt have the time to make it the site that it used to be because it used to be a very lively site when he did have the time.

I truly think that opening up brand specific will bring this site to the once glory it was.

Its not Lou's fault that its not at its previous glory.... yea the rules are more restricted than other sites, but lets face it, there's not many people getting banned around here.....

I've been on this site since like '04, long before the server crash that reset us all.... the excitement back then came from various idiots posting total B.S. all over the place.... and I'll be the first to admit, i used to start my fair share of crap - the first second i said a single word, everyone would be all up in arms because i had a GM in my signature, not a ford...... i haven't necessarily changed my views, but i just dont have the time to sit on here an argue anymore... trust me, i'm tempted to often open my mouth, but i can't sit on this site for hours each day arguing about various stupid topics...

and lets be honest, most of the entertainment came from ViperEd... :D ... now that he doesn't start crap every single day, there's no fun going around.... lol, sorry Ed

Its about the people that hang around, not the management of the forum....

And when mangement started to restrict, it was for good reason... for a long time, you could have arguments with people and blast them, and get blasted back... there were quire a few people on here that i thought were dingleberries via the net, but pretty cool dudes in person.... the restrictions came when things started to get super personal.... i won't name any names, but most would know who i'm talking about... there'd be talk daily about how one dude got in another dudes face, and the other is a total pu$$y because he didnt want to fight right there in the middle of the car show.... blah blah blah blah... people just started to take stuff too personal....

When it gets to the extent of violence, yes each person is responsible for their own actions, btu management felt it had to be controlled.. whether they're responsible or not, it puts a bad view on the website and its owners ... just imagine if the above mentioed no-names get in a fight at a car show.... knowing them, a knife gets pulled out.... then the Pittsburgh Post Gazette reports that the fued began on a site called SteelCityStangs... then those that run that site look like jackasses .....

Then how does Yellowbullet still exist or any other site for that fact? I think its hilarious when two people start going at it. Like last night on another site I get a text to read some funny stuff. That got me to sign in and read it and laugh. I didnt have to get involved so I just read and laughed, but it got me to sign on and got me to look at other threads. Thats the traffic this place needs.

Like I said when it starts getting personal then yes a mod needs to step in. And steelcitystangs would not be the start of the fight because everything gets started from off this site cause someone said something that someone heard that someone say. Cause you could blame the internet existing for starting that fight because without the internet steelcitystangs would not exist therefore the fight wouldnt of happened, you know what I mean?

Either i don't troll the site enough, or i'm not buying it.....

In the days of old (and excitement), everything started on this site.... having big e-muscles and shooting your mouth off..... and i'm in agreement, I find it really comical, honestly i do - all i'm saying is that i understand why it had to be stopped.....

but i still stand by my statement that its not Lou's fault.... i think the people that started the majority of the crap are gone.... why? yes, because the mods banned them... but i think Lou and the mods had a plenty high enough threshhold... the problem was that those guys couldn't control themselves and keep themselves in check.... its not like SCS is the only board they've been kicked off of.... there's quite a few boards, including nationwide ones, that they've been permabanned from...

so if you want more excitement, stand out on a street corner with signs looking for jackasses to join the site.... then the respectful memebers will scream "why can't everyone just get along" and all leave.... lol... its a perpetual cycle...

I personally think it should remain SCS for the fact that, that is what its been since day one. Maybe do some updating to the sight and what not, but thats it! You've already got unitedgearheads.com in the Burgh, that is open to all brands and is somewhat chaotic at times.

That site also gets alot more traffic than this site. I am just giving my opinion and i arrived to that from talking to previous people that were on this site that dont come here anymore and not because they didnt like someone or that it was being ran wrong, theres just nothing here about cars anymore.

I honestly dont think this site gets enough traffic to get lets say tech write-ups, tech questions, or builds. The site almost became just a chat center. Hit todays posts and see how many threads pop up that have something to do with a car besides putting new wheels on or i washed my car and took some pics.

You go on the other site there is alot of different builds whether it be engine or car, opinions, real tech questions. Not just i put a shorter antenna on what ya think? I got new vent shades, blah blah blah.

I am not knocking this site, I log in everyday, I am just saying it could be better with more traffic. More people and traffic isnt always a bad thing. And as far as the chaotic times, I hate to say it but we are all grown man and if you cant take some criticism or however you spell it or someone not agreeing with you and crying about it then you shouldnt be on the internet.

If someone moved here and didnt have a mustang, why would they sign up here?

I am not saying let it be a free for all, but like Terminated said, make a section that ppl can pay to be a supporting member where is no holds bar anything goes and no mod, then you can mod the other sections. Somethings like the classified section can be alil less modded and allow other people to bump up or say something nice about the product or seller. If the seller chooses not to have that done, they can state it in the ad.

Honestly, I think people here need to put some big boy pants on. I would love to see some people here make a newb question over on Yellowbullet and they will come back here quicker than crap saying this is the nicest site in the world.

Just wanted to take a few minutes to say thanks to all of those who support the sale of the site to me! Initially I had no interest in purchasing the site but after giving it some more detailed thought, it was really a no brainer for me!

I bought the site because I have a ridiculous number of friends and customers on here, letting the site go away or go down the wrong road just couldn't happen. Lou, Jeff and his staff have done a fantastic job over the years of keeping the site up and under control, that will not change. What needs to change are several things that the community has been asking for and the site needs. T-shirts, stickers, Christmas party to name a few, these things will be my primary focus while the moderators continue to police the sight. A server change will have to happen and more than likely the vBulletin software is going to be upgraded and some improvements/changes to the site will be made at some point. We also need to get the vendors/advertisers dues current as well as bring on more. It's going to take some time and money to upgrade and grow the site, the biggest thing anyone that wants to help can do is to show you our support via PayPal donations! This stuff isn't cheap so any and all donations are greatly appreciated as I cant afford to do this all on my own! All donation go to the sites expenses!

So thanks again everyone, any and all suggestions are welcome at all times! It's going to be a little bit before everything is completely transfered and in my full control but I will work diligently to bring change for the better!

Mike

Its awesome to see the site will still be up and running with the same name stronger than ever! I'm lookin forward to the fresh new look, updates and revamping! It also has been a daily routine for me too! It is my home page on my laptop so its the first page I get to see. Its has been for years now! I'd say about 80-90% of my used parts/mods have come from this site with only one little hiccup of a transaction! My Stang would never have been this modded er hook't up if it wasn't for this site and the great people I've met thru out all the years! Its basicly SCS built, a HUGE thank you goes out to everyone who has help't me too!!
