View Full Version : Steel City Stangs Stickers

Contacted the company that originally made the SCS stickers for Lou back in 2005. They were able to dig up the old art work and details. Attached is a jpeg of the original which I really liked to be honest with everyone, it's a chrome based peal away sticker with black digital print. I asked them to supply me with a generic jpeg of both left and right so those who wish to put them on both quarter windows or sides of the car can pick a uniform direction.
Go with the past design or make some changes? If changes are preferred, suggestions please!
Thanks
Mike

My opinion is that something with some color is needed. The old ones seem to get lost on a tinted window.

To me ( and this is my opinion) the horse looks tacky. Don't get me wrong I like it but that is my suggestion. I like plain and simple. Just my 2 cents.

I believe the original sticker looks to be very outdated and personally, the chrome stickers never seem to hold up as well as the vinyl ones. I like plain and simple, but at the same time something different. Maybe something that relates to both the city of pittsburgh and mustangs, after all the site is called steel city..stangs.
Maybe something like this Mike? A little something fresh, different, and tied the city's colors into it, yet not overbearing at the same time. Could always add in an image, running horse, steel beam, etc. Many options.

Cody's design is nice. I especially like the black & gold & white colors.
It could be tweaked though - into the shape of a triangle...( ya know...the whole point / 3-rivers thing... )
SteelCity
Stangs
.com
(ok - I had the 2nd and 3rd lines spaced to make the whole thing look like a triangle...but when I save it didn't keep the spaces )
I'm sure someone ( or everyone! ) could do better than that. Just a thought...

You could do the triangle but then the sticker would provide more difficult placement for on a window, especially a windshield banner or similar. See below:

i think that if color was applied like yours to the old one it would look so much better to a lot of people

In my opinion, if you are going to try and build a "brand image" for this website, you should use the same font and design as is used in/on the image that is at the top of the forum page. No value in making a different design for stickers, folks might not connect the sticker with the website if they look completely different. Using the mustang is up to you - again, it's part of the "brand image" of the website. Sorry for repeating some marketing lingo crap, but I could not think of a better way to state it.
The picture I am talking about is attached to this post.
I do agree that the chrome stickers have an 80's feel to them (they should look right at home on Fox's lol), so maybe they can be a die-cut vinyl instead.

I do actually like the one in the upper left hand corner, which is the one mentioned above!!^^

The orginal one without the horse and with some color would look good IMO.

What is the size of the original stickers? Are the ones in the first post actual size? I would like to see something smaller/more subtle. I have no problem with seeing larger ones on other people's cars, I just don't think a big sticker would look as good on some other applications. Just my two cents.

I hear ya. I was thinking it would fit nicely in the acute corner of fox quarter windows, but that is just a small piece of the Mustang population.

how about something like...
To hard to read and looks too much like graffiti.
Keep the current one, loose the horse and make it vinyl/color.

I agree, if the horse stays it needs new life for sure. Simple is never bad which is why I'm not trying to get into anything crazy, just want to get stickers back out to everyone.

I like vinyl cut stickers but the problem with them is the details always get peeled up. The original chrome stickers actually held up pretty well as far as I know. They were very popular and stayed on the glass. Regardless, the sticker has to direct people to the sight so it has to be a .com sticker.

You make very good points and thats why I'm starting with the original sticker and just going to have to wing it from there. I really like the version that is in the banner on here too, that is a perfect example of how we could add life to the sticker without a complete overhaul...
The orginal one without the horse and with some color would look good IMO.
I am waiting for a proof of just that because it's simple and they really do look good and they would be too big either.

1.729 X 10.199. Thats why I am going to check out a proof without the mustangs. Makes for a quick .com sticker that will stand out but not bee huge in size.
or maybe..
Cant even make them out bud! The people that notice the sticker need to know what they are looking at and how to get here!

I'm not a sticker guy in most cases ... the ones on my car are mostly there because they have to be there. that said ...
No idea how to even make a rough mock up, but how about the "Steelers" logo (circle with the three diamonds ... with the "Steel City Stangs.com running off it ... basically where it says "steelers" would be "Steel" with the "city stangs.com" on a narrow strip like the current design. In other words, the logo would replace the horse :D
Random idea to tie into the regional nature of this site.

different decals would work, keep the orig. and make up some new ones! that my opinion though, ill put one on my car, nothing that will take up a huge space though.

I say new owner new stickers, just not sure what the change should be. I'm thinking something with some color and maybe the city in the background.

You should have them have sayings.
For example:
"Look but don’t touch" then have the old name and logo.
"For sale" steelcitystangs.com
"No fat chicks" steelcitystangs.com
"Protected by Rugger" steelcitystangs.com
"More than likely I slept with your wife" steelcitystangs.com
"I survived Two Girls One Cup with Mike Koval" steelcitystangs.com
"Sex sounds tastier" steelcitystangs.com
I saw one at a show that said "I don't touch your wife, so don't touch my car".

Or "Insert dumb slogan here: Steel City Stangs...
My vote is for SteelCityStangs all together in the same font as the Cobra on the back bumper or the Mustang GT on the skirt of a Fox Body, and stencil of the Mustang running horse laid behind it. If I get some time tomorrow I'll photo chop something up.

Attention Steel City.
If you are really dedicated to this you would have the GT wraped in Steel City Stangs log. Your entire car.

Just wanted to give everyone a quick update on the stickers. I placed a small order with the company that did the original design but we removed the mustang from the art work making it a straight .com sticker. I just wanted to get something going and the original stickers were very popular and held up well. Same chrome type material like the originals with the black digital print, die cut.
In the meantime, I don't want that to be the only option and I think many on here would like to see it spiced up or even something completely new. So, my buddy is taking a look at all of our art work and is working on some stuff, I will keep everyone posted.
Attached is a raw jpeg of what I just ordered, I will take pictures of the finish product as they should be in by this Friday.
Thanks!
Mike

I like the stickers, I'll buy some.
The site can always be updated, but IMO, it's not required.
Grooming some good mods to keep the forums humming (yet civil) is key!
Also, organizing some mini meets and tech days would be cool.

Listing Steel City Stangs on Google Places (https://accounts.google.com/ServiceLogin?service=lbc&continue=https://www.google.com/local) will help the site spider on Google/Maps.
Because the address is also Wolfpack Speed, it could dovetail nicely.
PS
If you do a Google Places listing, make the business listing title;
Steel City Stangs - Mustang Club of Pittsburgh, PA
That way it will spider good.

id LOVE to see some tech days. i know there are a lot more people on here that know a lot more about their cars and id love to learn as well. and the meets did seem to die on here. Also, not just meets at sheetz and sonics i think, there is plenty of places to choose to take over parking lots at in robinson for food. smokey bones sticks out in my mind as well as buffalo wild wings and quaker steak.
