I have been looking into upgrading our vBulletin software and completely redesigning the entire site since I took over. While there are still many hurdles to clear, especially financially if I don't do the work my self, I am looking for feedback from our users. Many of you frequent other forums so if you have a theme or layout that just knocks your socks off, please let me know by posting a link to the forum. Doesn't' matter what kind of forum it is, I'm just looking for other forums to reference as I consider how the new site should look, feel and what it should be capable of.

If the site colors were to change, my first choice would be black and yellow as the main them colors. I am curious as to what other 2 base colors users would recommend and why?

Any mods that users recommend or cant live without?

Thanks

Mike

I like blue and white, aka Ford colors, and as far as forums, I kinda like the way it is. Very easy to navigate the way it is.

This is a Pittsburgh forum and black and yellow are the Pittsburgh colors. I third the color choice.

Check out the StangAlley layout, It looks good and is easy to navigate.

I like the idea of black backround. I lurk on SVTP and 4 eyed pride and they have a toggle on the bottom left on the forum screen to toggle between black and default colors. IDKb what that is all about, but it gives color options...

I hate sites with black backgrounds. This grey is easy to see.

If you do go black, please enable user selectable themes. On FEP I have my preferences set to the UBB default. When most view the site it's black, but when I log in there it goes to white / light grey. As far as the other colors, whatever works ;)

Edit - FEP is V Bulletin not UBB

I definitely don't like the black background, to hard on the eyes. 2 forum skin choices are a must IMO if the default is black. When using SVTP, mine is set to white....

Try one for a few days and switch it. See what goes over better.

I like gray background and Blue accents. Like was said try a few different ones. Not a black and yellow fan at all!

I could care less about the colors, but i like the layout/functionality of the site....

I can tell its a little bit older and outdated, but i like it better than a lot of the newer setups...

Pink n purple for the Chevy nuts.

Meguiar's (http://www.meguiarsonline.com/forums/forum.php) forum is red, yellow, black, white and doesn't look to bad.

Only real recommendation I have is to reduce the number of subforums- this seems to encourage posting on other sites I've belonged to for a long, long time.

Four or five subforums (General, Tech Only, For Sale, Wanted, Introductions) would probably be plenty and I bet it would cause a rise in posting.

Header needs a LOT of work IMO..... The site logo should not be smaller than the advertisers.

Same background as now, replace the maroon with blue. Someone said it above, remove some of the lower traffic rooms. Add a classic Ford portion for Fairlanes and Galaxie.

Peace.

Dont forget to add the "thread" spots in the sponsor section for our new sponsors.

There is an "other ford" section that those would fit into along with everything else ford. As I was told NUMEROUS times. This is a mustang site.

This is a concern I share as I don't come across many vBulletin 4 sites that I like. Problem is as vBulletin 3 becomes more outdated, security becomes a bigger issue.

I agree and have been working on this, there are still some more forum changes coming.

We have a completely new logo and used it to replace the old header on here, can you elaborate? When the site is rebuilt, I'm sure we will find a more creative way to display our logo but for now at least it has been updated. As far as the size, having it is more of a filler, we don't have a lot of space to work with and plastering our logo all over the forum that it represents is a waste of space.

??????????????

The sponsors direct spot on the main page when I hit forums. There is you, street lethal, scott rod, autotality. I was just meaning to add the new sponsors a spot there, That way they can post what they are offering and if anyone would have any questions about their products. I am not computer talk savy, so I hope what I said came out right.

I get what you are saying now which is why we have 3 levels of advertising on here. Sponsors have to pay to be under sponsors direct, sponsors direct is for level 2 and 3 sponsors.

I agree, I really don't like not being able to post something in a for sale thread. I've never seen this on any other forums.

I like the new rule, as it keep the guys out who just want to bash your price or product, or post something that wasn't necessary.

If everyone followed the rules and didn't post useless comments in this section, it wouldn't be an issue.

I'm thinking Mike changed the forum as people wouldn't follow the rules, and this was his only recourse. Lou commented on this many times and it still happened over and over.

Just my two cents as well....and by no means am I saying you guys acted this way, just commenting as well.:goodidea:

I don't see how posting a question was so bad. Posting a question/awnser helped others viewing the thread.

I think that the constant bumping and "glws" posts did it in. I've been on car forums now for a long time and have never seen the pm only for sale section. Stuff like this deters people from posting after joining.

Whats the big deal about pm'ing somebody? Usually happens when you buy something anyways.

scott5

And ppl alwys say well in two months i will buy it or my buddies aunts uncle bought the same part for this much cheaper. Is what did it. Or posting nice car or wish i had the money. So this will put a stop to it as well.

And the fs is why 95% of the people are on and theres alot more reasons why people dont post here like in past.

If I change things back but we actually enforce the rules, which you have to have and do, posts will be getting deleted and people will be getting banned left and right! Imagine how butt hurt people will be then! Imagine how much drama will come from that!

What did it in is people cant keep the conversation strictly to the item being sold. The threads constantly go off topic and get cluttered with bs. It's not PM only, we all have emails and phone numbers!

Exactly! I have never purchased anything from a classified forum just from posting back and forth in the thread. There is ALWAYS phone and or email communication, usually phone.
