So putting my car together. The car was a basket case still missing a ton of parts but i am concerned at the problem at hand. I have the engine and trans installed and everything tightened down put the shift boots and handle on and then started shifting thru the gears and when i shift it in 2nd and 4th the shifter hits the bezel for the boot. I know for 100% that the handle isnt backwards and it is going all the way in the gear after it pushes the bezel out of the way a lil bit. The only thing I can think of is that I am not using the exhaust hanger on the transmount and that not using it is lowering the trans enough to make the shifter hit. You guys think I am on the right track or should I keep looking.

Hmm assuming stock boot, what crossmember is in the car? Is it the correct trans mount? Is the shifter cup on the end of the shifter inside the trans? Kinda need a little more info to help.

Also is there an aftermarket K member with engine set back option?

stock k member, stock boot, stock shifter, I am 100% sure the shifter is ball in cup.

Trans for an SN-95? Doesn't it set the shifter back a hair or am I wrong here. Never had the problem myself just a thought.

That very well could be input shaft and bell housing may be 94 95 style, does the bellhousing have 5.0 on the top of it? If so 94 95 bell and trans.

Sure the car wasn't an auto at the start if life? They have a different trans tunnel, you will have to trim the floor pan if that's the case

This is true as well

Doesnt hit the tunnel just the bezel. No 5.0 on the Bell. My engine mounts could only go one way or the tits wouldnt fall in the hole.

shifter bezel for an auto?? I believe it is smaller. Also, another way to check out the 94-95 bell is the clutch fork is angled down a bit, while the foxbody ones are straight out

This sounds like one of those things where something might be installed backwards/upside down etc... I'd go back through each step and double check installation on everything. If it's all stock stuff then should be able to find it...

Any luck?

no luck yet. I can see that everything is mounted as it should be. Its as if the whole transmission is sitting to low. Also to confirm this It has a lower chassis brace on it that cant go back on due to it hitting the bell housing. It needs like a 1/4 inch

Is the trans all the way in flush and square with the block? Not hung up on a dowel pin or pilot bearing?

Trans is all the way in flush all the way around. Clutch works. If I remove the 2 trans mount bolts and raise the trans till the studs are flush with the mount the shifter doesn't hit the bezel.

Does the handle have a bend in it? Looks like it does. I know some do some don't. My Hurst did my Pro 50 didn't. Maybe a straight handle would help.

Seems like it should sit up in the tunnel further doesn't it? I kinda thought that when he said he could lift it up to where the trans mount studs are flush with the cross member. Doesn't seem like you should be able to jack it up that far from a regular cross member.

The car is about 10 min from the Airport. Where are you from I would love to try another x member. And haven't dove the car yet. Its been taking some time to gather up all the parts I need.

I'm pretty sure its the crossmember, pull a string from center to center on the crossmember bolts, measure to the top of the crossmember where the trans mount sits, mine is a 92 and is pretty much inline with the bolts, just by looking in your pics id say its way lower

Yeah if the handle was straight it would be fine.

I'm more concerned with driveshaft angle if its too low

PROBLEM FOUND. It turns out that the handle from my shifter is for a short throw shifter not a stock one. This makes the bends all wrong for the heigth and throw of the shifer making it hit the bezel italso make the shifter appear to sit lower. I guess that's what I get for buying a box of parts instead of a car. Its getting more fun to put together than my 5.0 Rx7
